The Gates Of Terror Are Open!

Sorry, MOVIE MASTER, haven't had time to reply to your posts--working hard on trying to fix the piece of crap I'm shooting for HorrorFest. I think lighting with practicals work great (as it looks like you're doing)--just go with that. I think it's a very legitimate lighting style for horror. The more "normal" the lighting before the gore, the more horrific the bad stuff will look in contrast. Just check your exposure (watch that overblown highlights don't dominate your frame) and try keep your horizons level while framing your standard coverage shots. If you're going to tilt your horizon, then REALLY tilt it, so we know it's deliberate.

I just figured out that MOVIEMASTER's avatar is a beast with horns. I seriously thought it was a tennis racket.

HEY WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK IS THE PERFECT FILM LOOK SETTING ON A DVX100A?

Here are the settings I generally shoot with (not perfect for everyone, but I like the look)

DVX-100 (original)

Detail Level: +1
Chroma Level: 0
Chroma Phase: 0
Color Temp: 0
Master Ped: 0
A. Iris Level: -3
Gamma: Cine-Like
Skin Tone DTL: On
Matrix: Cine-Like
V Detail Freq: Thin
Progressive: 24P (ADV)

Hope that helps.

There is no 'perfect' film look, as looks are always subjective to different audiences. The best things to do to help your video footage look less like video & more like film are the following, which no amount of in-camera settings are going to simply solve:

  1. Framing/placement
  2. Movement
  3. Lighting
  4. Set Dressings
  5. Depth of Field
  6. Bolder/Richer colors and/or levels (i.e. brighter whites, darker blacks, etc.).
  7. And I'm sure the list goes on.
For myself at least, those are the things I look for to try & seperate something that looks like it's a beginner's video clip, and a more seasoned professional that may have shot on film.

Are you sure Movie Master didn't wet your bed?

I mean, the guy IS evil and all...
How did you know Barry!? I woke up just a minute ago and the horned beast was on my ceiling urinating onto my bed again! I shooed him away with the chainsaw I keep under my pillow but now I have to wash my covers once more. That EVIL bastard!
