Overcranking

Also, how do I get your book (just purchased camera from Specialized Comm)?
Register on the Panasonic HVX website and they'll send you a free copy.
And one more thing, after Honolulu HVX boot camp, when will you do another one?
Haven't scheduled yet; it'll be either NY or LA sometime in November probably, but why not come out to Honolulu for two days? It's the biggest bootcamp yet.

I would love to make Honolulu but I have a paying job. Best of luck on the first one. By the way this camera is amazing. I have had the DVX100 since it came out and this is a whole new ball game. The footage is truly amazing. However the upgrades for everything else are wearing my analytical brain out not to mention my pocketbook (now a purse).

can you go from 24 frame to 12 frame or 60 frame in the same shot?
There is no provision for changing the frame rate during a shot. Perhaps the best way to simulate it would be to go from 24 to 12 by shooting at 24fps the whole time, and for the 12fps segment you'd drop every other frame; same thing for the slow-mo, shoot 48fps the whole time, and then for the 24fps portion you'd drop every other frame.

Will this frame rate converter for FCP allow you to achieve overcrank/undercrank effects with footage shot in 1080/24pA? I love the HVX, but I think it's sorta retarded that you can ONLY achieve this effect, on camera, in 720/24pN.

I haven't wanted to tie up my system to do the 5.1.2 update, so have no clue what the P2 aspect of the update is precisely. Perhaps it impacts the Frame Rate Convertor stuff?

But the FRC I currently have basically does one thing, take footage you shoot at the varied frame rate (which will come in at 60 fps shell) and remove the unnecessary frames and give you a new file at 24 fps. At 720 you bring it in as 720p60 and then it makes it 720p24. Not sure if that's the exact same at 1080 or not though. I guess your best bet is to just do some tests.

cheers.
