Cheers Cheese,

What did you pick up on Tech?

I went heavy handed on the CC because I was not too happy with the lighting. I knew it was over-the-top but thought it would jux the narrative.

Using a girl that mimes a boy's vocal was something I've wanted to try for a while now, also I did'nt want the singer to be the focus.

it LOOKS like you over CC'd because you weren't happy with the lighting, but to me it works for the piece, like THAT choice was deliberate. To me the production values look kinda like a porn movie, particularly with the chick dancing with the pink light, the close up shots with all the make up, etc.

The porn look, combined with the chick singing the dudes lines... I thought it was a dude in drag, which was really freaking me out, I kept thinking "I dunno, that dude's pretty hot... wait, what?!?" These ingrdients together make something pretty cool.

So that's what I meant about tech. Didn't mean it as a put down, you admit the you weren't happy with the lighting, I'm saying that aspect probably makes it even better.

I also like the pull out from the album cover/poster, where if we didn't know already, it's cleverly explained that indeed this is not the drag singer from the band, it's a concept piece. I like it

Cheers Cheese. Thanks for you thoughts. Maybe I'll look at the blue CC.
Then again is porn that bad :)

don't misinterperate my observation. I wouldn't change the cc unless you think you have an idea that would legitimatly improve it. Again, I LIKE it

something about this vid and the music is IMO totally early 90's to me, which i really dont find offensive at all, like i can hear this in the Clerks soundtrack or something? i dunno kind'a weird but that's the feel i get, both visual and sonic.......but i like it, not mind blowing, but it's cool
and hell, the chick is hot which helps as well ;)

I like this video a lot because it makes me feel uneasy for so many reasons. A chick singing with a dude’s voice, the characters seem oddly coupled together, and she seems like a bad girl that you don’t take home to mother. All this together sounds like it would be a train wreck, but I think it goes along with the quirky and alternative sound of the song. Plus, I love that there’s some kind of story here, instead of a band in some warehouse and bleach bypass…it entertained me all the way through.

Thanks for everyones comments and kind words. The video is being seen by all the broadcasters at the moment.
I will keep you all informed when it gets aired.
Cheers.

First what was the rig you used?

Hi Rich
I can answer your questions about the gear used: The video was shot on my MS Broadcast, DVX in the weight cage. Simple setup, carry rather more weight than I need to, but then again I'm more than used to it and I'm happy with the results. More recently I've bought a Manfrotto quick release system that I use in the cage that makes everything more secure. It was satisfactory camera & steadi work, although of course I think there's always room for improvement, as you'll understand. The classic shot of the girl walking away worked well, by far my favourite shot. Also the opening sequence with the barmaid coming from the bar.

Aside from the steadi work, I felt the crash zooms looked nice, and the ringlight effect with the CUs in the darkened room was the business.

Cheers
Jason
