Avid: exporting DVCAM footage (vs. miniDV)

Hello All!

Here's a little diddly that has stumped many an editor; I only wish I could financially reward the one who can help...

I'm am having a problem "dumping" my timeline to tape.

Scenario:
I capture miniDV footage using my Panasonic, edit the project into a finished timeline, then record the timline onto a miniDV tape using my Panasonic. No problem.

THEN, I capture DVCAM footage using the same camera, I edit the project, and create a finished timeline...BUT...this time when I try to record the timeline onto a DV tape, the Avid "freaks out" (the blue "scrub line" sticks, freezes, the image jumps from frozen image to frozen image, the camera LCD monitor alternates between a frozen image for a few seconds, then blue screen for a few seconds, and so on. Sometimes an error message pops up mentioning something about "flamethrower")

What is the glitch? The system setup is the same each time (I've even alternated between the Panasonic and....a Sony); footage recorded in miniDV mode has no problem from beginning to end, but the timeline using DVCAM footage "sticks" during export (Playing the timeline is NOT a problem when the camera is NOT connected/turned on).

Thank you, thank you, and...thank you!

Hey! That's right! I've heard about that technique, but never used it. Anything I should know off the bat or will it be pretty self-explanitory once I open the tool?

It's not too tough. Just make sure you blackcode the tape first, and everything else should be self-explanatory. (i.e. make sure your tracks are activated)

If you need to start your edit at hour 1, you'll need to choose the assembly edit option and make sure you have enough pre-roll before hour 1 starts on the blackcoded tape.

Hope this works for ya.

Well - it didn't work...but thanks anyway because the answer appears to be radically different than anything "predictable". (Like simply using Digital Cut tool vs. crash recording, etc.)

The problem appears ONLY during the following combination:
play the timeline that uses DVCAM footage + ext harddrive on + DV camera on

The problem doesn't exist if I am using miniDV-mode recorded footage.
(Digital Cut recording or crash recording process works just fine.)
The problem of playing the timeline disappears if the camera is turned off.
Turning off the harddrive is not an option in order to access the timeline.

The "stickiness"/freezing of playing the timeline reminds me of times when there is not enough RAM to handle several processes/functions at once and the computer slows down. HOWEVER, this would mean that it would happen under ANY circumstance, but as mentioned it does not.

Note: I went to school and performed the same unsuccessful process and it ended up working just fine, so I assume there is a unique problem with the hardware/components of my computer, and I just need to get a new one.:crybaby:
