I really don't know what to say.......My first reaction was "wow, Is that girl a bloke? because it sounds like a bloke singing". Couldn't bare listening to the track past 30 seconds.

Music just not my cup of tea, reminds me a bit of the "Smiths" and every time I've had to endure a Smiths song I had to stay away from sharp objects and lengths of rope.

The close-up shots of the girl/bloke were nice but that's all I can say as I really couldn't listen to the rest of the song.

I'll try and watch it with the sound off.

that must be a man singinger. i refuse to believe its her, cool video but the sound, well i have mutual feelings as steadicamsteel.

It does not work for you ? Try and show a little bit more couth in your opinion please

Music really must not be your thing cause it doesn't sound anything like The Smith's.

This is an interesting piece of work. It is so different than most of what we usually see. I like the concept and do think it works. My only reservation was the singer himself ...

The singer is like 'Bleh....'. IF the band found another leadman they'd have a nice sound, but this dude cannot sing a bit

But the video is cool. I like your style personally

My goodness there is some serious love going on in this thread.
A couple things. . . first, the video was interesting, some nice camera work but I too felt the voice was a bit jarring and couldn't really get past it. On the visual side you had some very jarring visuals, some that I felt worked very well (I really liked the glammour shots for some reason) and some I didn't (Kind of felt like the colors just seemed to be thrown in for the hell of it, couldn't find any real reason for the various colorful corrections).

Now I have to say this becasue it's always going to happen, jp, by posting your video you are in essence asking people to critique it. Some people will say (wow that looks great), some will say (I hated it, you suck) some will give you actual feedback, but you need to be prepared for all of them,. Retaliation won't get you any love in the harsh world of critiques.

Scharky thanks for the comments. Things were getting a little heated. Thanks to whomever deleted the posts. I've been around here long enough to take peoples critique. Just not 'Could try better' non-productive comments.
Tis all cool.

Steadicamsteel,
Sorry if I came across too heavy handed. Just thought you were taking the mick with that last comment. Lets draw a line under it.
Anything you want to ask, I'm more than happy to answer.

I actually thought this was interesting. Specifically the black and white shots. Steadycam shots were smooth. Loved the shot of the blonde walking away quickly from the man. Thought that was great looking. Overall I liked it. Nicely done, keep shooting... (As if you could stop) =)

I think the concept works REALLY well. lol I'm not sure it's the kind of thing that sells records, or that anyone who not a geek will look at more than 30 sec, but for me using the chick was genius.

On a technical level I think it leaves a lot to be desired, but to me, that's not what it was about. As art I think it's a success. Good work.

Thanxs Uncle,

That shot is one of my favs too. The BW thing I'm really getting messing with the Contrast/ Grain to create a new direction for my BW stuff.

I wanted this video to be unusal, looks like I got that :)

Cheers Cheese,

What did you pick up on Tech?

I went heavy handed on the CC because I was not too happy with the lighting. I knew it was over-the-top but thought it would jux the narrative.

Using a girl that mimes a boy's vocal was something I've wanted to try for a while now, also I did'nt want the singer to be the focus.

Hey jp,

Interesting vid... I liked it. The BW stuff looks great, but not a fan of the blue hued ones of the girl dancing.

I think the concept fit the song well too. Adds the "wierd" dimension to the video with the girl singing... and weird is definitely better than generic.

You should check out Fiona Apples video "Not About Love". Same concept, but a different take (more comedic)... http://videos.antville.org/stories/1315779/

good job, man

Steadicamsteel.

EDIT (SEE JASONS LATER POST ABOUT RIG) Jason Torbitt was the operator. I've worked with Jason ,(very pro.), on many projects.

I'm a STEADICAM convert...Must have shot about 10times using rigs. Why?

1. Love the long take.
2. Love blocking longer takes.
3. Production value.
4. For me you can't beat a great STEADICAM op, they are always on-top of their game and least moaning of crew members.
5. The motion.
6. Music videos IMOP look great when moving and not on sticks.
7. Don't like cranes/ jibs. (See 6.)
8. Don't have track, its over used anyway (See 6.)
