Did I get shafted?

So I go on ebay find a camera that I like dvx100. I ask the Seller to take it down and I will pay him $1500. We agree on $1650. So I'm excited about getting it and today I was just bored and so I go on ebay to find another listing which is very similiar. so I sent him an email:
--------------------------------------------------------
Hello,

I have just looked at my Paypal account and saw that the transaction
for $1650 is complete for the ebay item

ebay item#:1

I am sending you this e-mail because I have not yet received this item
and I have had it 2 day air mailed on September 19, 2006. And it has
not yet arrived.

I am very concerned right now due to a VERY similar listing on ebay

ebay item#: 170
link to item:

As you can see it is very similiar it also says **THIS CAMERA IS BEING
RELISTED BECAUSE OF FRADULENT BIDS AND EBAY'S RETRACTION OF THE
AUCTION** If this is the camera that I have purchased no one has contacted me
as of September 22, 2006 to tell me what is going on.

I have called Jxxxx Xxxxx, the person I delt with on the phone who
sold me the Camera twice already to see if the paypal transaction has been
complete, he has not answered his phone and I have left messages.

I have Documented Proof of the transaction on Paypal for the recipient
of Xxxxx XXXXX, as well as bank statements to Paypal with Xxxxx
XXXXXXx as the person receiving the money.

So what do you guys think? Did I get shafted or is this a legit different camera.?

If you don't have contact within the next two days or so I'd dispute it with PayPal and get your money back. PayPal will generally side with the buyer, especially if the seller hasn't done anything to try to resolve it.

yeah I hope they do. has anyone ever delt with paypal giving back your money for not recieving items or for different items?

The auctions seem very different to me. When you try to make a deal outside of ebay, you are playing with fire. You lose almost all protection as the buyer.

ash =o)

Hopefully it wasnt a "Second Chance" auction. Ive gotten several fake emails saying something to the effect of "Second Chance offer, either they buyer did not pay or the seller removed the item, make an offer." I emailed a guy back once and he accepted my ridiculously low offer for a DVX100A. Watch out for these.

I'm confused... was this deal outside eBay rules, or not? If PayPal considers the sale to be an eBay item, it's usually legit through eBay... what do you mean by "ask the seller to take it down"?

I actually have experience with a disputed purchase on Pay Pal. I contacted Pay Pal and told my side of it. The guy went off on a rant and threatened to sue me. And, Pay Pal sided with me. I got all my money back minus the shipping and handling I believe.

If you ever do any online purchasing, I recommend Pay Pal. They have been great in resolving any issues.

who buys a $3000+ camera on ebay? Has anyone had a good experience buying their dvx or hvx on ebay?

Ebay has become (because of people like us) the defacto standard for selling price in this country. I walked into a pawn shop to buy a camera and offered them half of what they wanted. He got on Ebay via high speed internet always on connection and within seconds told me the price he was selling it for was comparable to what he found on Ebay.

Like it or not, Ebay is the standard now.

Sorry, but good luck getting a refund from Paypal. they're a bunch of crooks, once they get your money, they hide. Use a major credit card next time.

These look like 2 totally different cameras, I think you'll be OK. Do you feel like this is the same camera you purchased?

I've had a dispute settled with a refund from Paypal. If the seller defaults or doesn't send your item (which happened to me) they will rule in your favor and you will be refunded. It took about a month.

That has nothing to do with what I asked. Buying from that pawnshop is still way more practical and safer than buying an expensive piece of equipment on ebay. Unless you are able to go pay for it in person, why anyone would buy a camera on ebay is beyond me.

Allright Guys I just got my camera *sighs* It was all just a big misunderstanding. So all is well in the DVX universe again.

I've bought and sold cameras on Ebay quite a bit. Use the feedback. I usually won't buy anything from anyone with less than 3 years of registration and 100 feedback. That's the only real way to be safe on something like this.

Most items I've bought or sold were in the thousands of dollars range so just be careful. In fact, I'd prefer to use Ebay to buying off the DVXuser boards since they got rid of the posts counter. Sucks that I have no clue how involved that member is with the board and have no way to make sure they're legit.

All you have to do is click on a person's name and view their public profile to find out how many posts they have.

cool man! It makes my stomache turn when I hear some artist's hard earned money is taken.....Glad to hear everything turned out OK(:
