Heres a shot i found that we took a while ago...just reading about the Pleasantville effect of only having 1 color shown and everything else black and white...did it in about 10 minutes so i know it can use some work, but was just happy to finally use FCP on the new iMac 24" tonight (2:30am) LOL...

yea thas what they did in Sin City. how do you do that? is it done through FCP or do you set the camera a certain way?

Cynic... That is pretty darn cool. Come on.. give up the goods. How did you do it in FCP? Is there also a way to deepen and crush the blacks a bit on the B and W.

Looks like a great effect...

The iMac is wonderful! Killer...i didnt get too much time last night to do much besides this on it, but ive never used a machine so snappy and responsive.

anyways, heres where i learned to do this, pretty easy once you get it to work, then youll figure out how to adjust.

I actually couldnt get some of the blades of grass to go fully black and white, because they had some redish tones in them, so on top of the color thing, i also put a second version on top of the color corrected one and desaturated the whole thing, then cropped the top of it down to the smaller blades to get the color out of them.

The wonders of the colour corrector 3-way. Just use the limit effect which you reveal by clicking the little arrow at the bottom of the Veiwer then sample the desired colour you wish to keep. Desaturate it so it is easy to see how mch is selected, then hit the invert button and hey presto. Sin City look!

I did something very similar for my trailer, however, I did it on the PC using After Effects...
Using the Hue/Saturation... I dropped down the saturation on all of the individual colors (Cyans, blues, yellows, etc...), except the reds... and I got it...
I think there has to be something like that in Premiere Pro... but I'm not sure...
here's a screen shot:
