Mark Johnson - "CHOW BABY"

...i'll still bust my tail to be first in line to see your final film! :)
I want to be 8th in line to watch the film, but I'll be first in line for that steak lunch when you're back up this way

Our prayers are with your nephew and the rest of the family.

You guys are like family ... better than some family, in fact. I have a cousin who has been incommunicado for 15 years, but I digress.

Thanks so much for your sincere comments and support. It means more to me than I can express and it truly has helped me get motivated again.

Wow Mark.... Your sincerity is coming through so strong that it actually unveiled your real name in your avatar!

Vislaw is bye-bye?

Be well, man!

Hey Mark, how is everything? I am sure that you are submerged in family and work... just checking in.

Miss you around here.

Ted

Hi guys. Although I've been spending most of my available time completing FX for REKINDLED, I have been in discussions with a Russian 3D artist, Andrey Kravchenko, who is one of the best 3D Max artists out there. Andrey is going to create and rig a new 3D snake that should improve my current snake - particularly with respect to animation.

I can also report that my nephew has made some progress although he remains unresponsive. Head trauma can take an inordinate time to recover from and we simply won't know his expected course until he finally wakes up. On behalf of my whole family I am very grateful to those of you who have given your encouragement, prayers and support. I remain hopeful that I'll have my assistant back sometime down the road so we can make more films together.

Since CHOW BABY won't be completed in time for the HorrorFest, I am going to devote myself to completing it by the end of the year as a personal project. Having worked on set with Jack, i may even go back and reshoot some stuff in light of what I learned from watching him. In any event, I am very grateful to all of you for your interest in my film and I hope many of you continue to follow its development when I move the thread to the Cafe after HorrorFest is over.

Glad to see things are looking up Mark, still praying for your nephew (we are going through a similar situation with my uncle now, so I can definitely relate).

Let me know when you are back up in the San Jose/Pleasanton part of the world and I'll treat you to a nice steak

Wow

Wow

When showing friends of mine, my thread.. I would show them what I was up agaisnt. I would always show them your thread because you had so much cool stuff, cg snake, full body scans, night to day etc.... I would say see he's got a cool crane and a snake! dude!... I just got a wheel chair and my unipod duct taped to a mic stand :) (see pic on my super cool thread:) ) everyone including my wife (who doesn't like my film..something about lesbians i'm not sure :) ) wanted to check it out It was a sad day when I found out it was going to be delayed and sadder to find out your nephew is in the hospital.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family..

Hey Mark, great to hear from you! Been missing you on the boards.

I am glad to hear that there is progress in regards to your nephew and sorry that the recovery period isn't as immediate as we would all like. It just breaks my heart to even imagine the difficult time it must be for you and your family.

I know that you are aware of the thoughts and prayers being sent to you.

Wishing you the best. Keeping the faith. You'll have your assistant by your side again soon.

Ted

That was exactly my thought when I read Mark's post. How could it possibly get any better? Unless they comp in a real snake, or reshoot the scenes with a real snake (the actress may not like that option though)

Hey, you guys are just the best. Believe me, when Andrey completes the new snake it's gonna rock. Mine was serviceable, but I was a little uncertain about the closeups. Andrey is a master at textures and bump maps, so I have no doubt that the climax will be awesome. This also gives me some time to try an effect I've been wanting to do (camera appears to move through the floor). Jack pointed out a film on Atom Films to me in which the camera moved from the living room to underneath the floorboards to reveal a decomposing skeleton under the house. I looked at it repeatedly and am convinced it was done with a practical set. However, it gave me an idea to try for Chow Baby using 3D camera mapping to simulate something like it.

I'm going to spend my spare time the rest of the week finishing the FX for REKINDLED and I hope all of you check out the results on 10/1. Its much different than any FX I've done before (blood and such) but has been a whole lot of fun. I do plan to whip up a trailer for Chow Baby, though, but don't expect the Full Monty under the circumstances.

I cannot thank all of you enough for restoring my faith in so many ways. Hopefully some day my nephew will read this thread and be able to thank you himself.

Sounds ace!! I'm trying to work on cg scenes at the moment. It's very time consuming for sure. Hope the snake turns out good for you.

My regards for the fast recovery of your nephew. As of yesterday he was still in a coma. My prayers are with you, Mark. What awful news this has been to me.
Thanks for the reviews, Mark. I hope we can connect in November!
GO HUSKERS!

This thread is still entertaining every time I read through it... (and no, it's not because there is a nude actress on a post a few pages earlier)
