Expresscard to PCMCIA

What I like is that their data sheet specifically states support for P2. That's great.
Nice catch and thanks for passing it along.

I agree. I remember when this was first announced. (It seems so long ago.)

My only qualm is I wish the cable were a little longer so you could wrap it around to the front or the back of the laptop.

True unfiltered - I have my pb on an iCurve and I'd nearly bet both knackers that the pcmcia receptor would dangle. Not lying flat like you'd want it to.
Now if Steve would just release Merom in the mbp I'd get one AND have a reason to order one of these.

How can you be sure?
Don't know, but I do think this is going to be a big challenge for Apple to adapt to. They're used to releasing a model and having it stay "current" for a long, long time. A year, year and a half, whatever, it's always current. In the PC world it's not that way. Sony and Acer and Dell are all selling Core 2 Duo laptops right now. The Core Duo MBP is already looking very overpriced and slow in comparison to what the others are doing. Someone mentioned that we should see Core 2 Duo MBP's in January... heck, if they wait that long then come November/December the existing Core Duo MBP is going to be looking *very* long in the tooth in comparison to what other companies are producing on similar hardware.

So it'll be interesting to see if Apple decides to get on the fast-upgrade bandwagon, or if they'll stick with the same release schedule they've always used, trusting in the concept that whether other companies are offering faster hardware or not, people will still buy Apple products because of MacOS?

We shall see.

With all of the information I have about future upcoming processors and the shelf life of apple products, I belive they will be out this month or early next month.. The MBP has already been out for over 3 months and apple usually refreshes their products every 4-5 months.. The merom uses the same chipset, it would not be difficult for apple to introduce it into current models.. As we know, its already in the iMac... Intel is said to have kentsfield ready (Quad Core chip; basically 2X Core2Duos on 1 chip) by the end of the year, and my guess is that we will see kentsfield in early 2007

Hi, I started a thread about me buying a new powerbook without noticing that they don't come with the port for the P2 cards. And since you guys have been talking about this, I was wandering if someone knew of any alternative that wouldn't be as expensive as buying a panasonic P2 deck, for me and something I can use in the meanwhile this adaptor comes out.

The cheapest way is to get a PC laptop which still comes with the slot.

Next to that, www.duel-systems.com is entering the beta-testing phase for a P2->ExpressCard adapter.

Other than that, you can get a P2 Store which will work as a pass-through slot for an MBP.

Have you looked at the inside of a MacPro?

Might a little tough to stuff that into a MBP.

He is talking about the upcoming Quad-core processor (called the "Core 2 Quadro"). It is a single processor that has 4 cores in it. It is the exact same dimensions as the Core2 Duo.
