What output would you send to film festivals?

I shot my last film on a DVX100 and send DVDs to film festivals.

Now that I'm shooting on the HVX200 the options are better.

I am capturing all footage at 720 24pn and editing in the latest version of FCP.
Thanks to Bary and other users on this forum all is well.

A used deck like the Panasonics run in the thousands. HiDef DVD players are getting cheaper so perhaps more festivals will have those.

What would you guys do?

DVD should be fine for the screening copy, but most (if you get accepted) are going to require a film out, as far as I know.

Don't be surprised to find that diferent festivals require different submission formats. They will range from VHS to DVD to Beta SP to HDCAM. Check with the festivals you plan to enter for more information. You would hate to assume one thing and be wrong... know what I mean.

Sundance and Tribeca both require a HDCAM copy, if the movie is to be played from a video source.
I haven't heard yet of an established Festival that does not accept Video and only play a film print.
All the others (about 200 of them) in the US and International will play DigiBeta or Beta SP. Some small ones will ask for a DVD version.

The screening process is mostly done with a DVD and some require a VHS dub in case your DVD doesn’t play.

I also recommend "Without a Box", very helpful and reliable source of information.

Check it out.

Yes, I used withoutabox for my last film and DVD was certainly the common denominator.

I'm hoping that HDVD players will start to infiltrate the festivals so our work can be seen at the resolution we shoot at...

Boy, wouldn't that be nice.

I was at the Temecula International Film Festival this weekend and one production brought in its own HD projector for the screening. My wife said it looked fantastic (she didn't know what they shot on)!

I thought this was about submissions - not the final accepted film - I would imagine most if not all want dvd submissions. The only advantage to vhs is that there will be no compatibility issues - dvd workflows still vary
