Rented this from Blockbuster (only one in several stores). Twas interesting. As miamivideo said it was a little dark. What camera/audio equiptment did you use?

DVX100a was my cam, we had audio into the camera and DAT. For some reason the final audio isnt the one i delivered. My burned DVD's sound much better. Weird...

Film was too dark i agree. Needed more lights. It was a great learning experience for me coming from larger budget films made with Panavision cameras.

Im hooked now..just bought a JVC HD100 for my next movie.

that is great news... i am also looking for a distributor for my film www.kaanch.com - the negative thing is that its a subtitled movie.... but your success gives me hope.... i will drink ur podcasts now :)

I used to listen to your podcasts, until I stopped listening to podcasts in general. I think I'll start listening to your's again, I remember especially enjoying your interview with the 2nd unit "action" director.

Thanks!

Happy, we have a new site up for the podcast now! Also we giveaway lots of great stuff in the forums. Cheers! Dave

Congrats, Dave.

I will vouch for Dave's podcasts as being an invaluable asset to learning. You will get more inside info than anywhere else short of actually doing it yourself, so check em out if you haven't already. You'll be glad you did.

Listening to his interviews and experiences has definitely helped me become better. So for all the hard work and dedication you put into your site/podcasts Dave, I gotta say "Thanks, you rock!".

Dave,

I listened to a few of your podcasts at the bottom of the main page. Fantastic!

Unfortunately...

I can't sign up for the site itself! Says "Internal Server Error."

Is anybody else having this problem?

Yeah, I'm getting that "Internal Server Problem" as well, which is unfortunate because my next move is to produce a feature to market straight-to-video. And I really wanted to here this person's experience. Now I hate those damn things... but do I have to own an Ipod to hear a PodCast?

No, you don't need an ipod. Just a computer. :)

I'd venture to guess Dave is too busy with his feature to fix the website. Anybody have an extra account they've already made at filmmaking central?

Or does just logging in give people trouble, also?

I wasn't able to listen to the podcasts, either, after logging in.

I'm curious as to what the actual shooting budget for Death Clique was. IMDB shows a figure of $100,000, but surely this was not the case, right?!

I felt there was much to be admired of a movie made with such modest means, even if the story was sophomoric. I also felt some of the "limitations" of the DVX camera would have actually served the story better in style. There were many times when I felt that I was watching something like Last House on the Left because of the look of the video. Had the movie been shot with that sort of raw energy and style, you would have really had something there.

My wife also sat through the movie in its entirety, which she never does with productions of this ilk. All in all, you did a good job for the means at your disposal.

replied to you email! thanks for the kind words!

Hey MM,

How is the movie doing in the marketplace. Last time I asked someone who had his horror released thru LGF via Blockbusters, he said he had no clue on how to track its performance.

Do you know how it's fairing, other than checking on IMDB and seeing if it pips into the top 50 this week?

Best of luck!

EJ

Hi EJ,
the deal i made was for an all in upfront fee. i personally wanted one in the hand rather than 2 in the bush as it may. i was quite happy with the return i got and wanted to get going on my next film. thus i really dont know how it is fairing but i do know the distrib wanted me to make more of them for him.

But is he willing to help finance? Or is he not willing to put his money where his mouth is...:undecided

congrats on the deal dude. it's f'ing awesome that you made the final part of the journety, which is actually the hardest part. Getting it out to market is an achievement an dit doen't matter what mistakes you made or the final quality in some cases, or even what people have to say negatively (they rented it didn't they? so you already won that argument), but thatyou went there, you filmed it and now it's not sitting on your self gathering dust waiting for it's time.

Congrats and good one on you mate. Now get started on filmnumber 2 so we can cheer you on again.. in the meantime we'll all be trying to get to where you are now.
