Some frame grabs from my upcoming short film ILLEGAL - HVX + M2

Thanks for the comments guys!

We used a few nikon primes. 35mm f1.4 / 50mm f1.4 / 55mm f1.2 / 85mm f1.4 / 105mm f1.8.

Scene file was set to Cine D, Master Ped -3, coring +2.

Also, color correction was done in Final Cut Pro. I also messed with the curves a bit until the image looked right to my eye. No DaVinci here, nothing special. I love dirtying up nice HD footage. :)

I think that is one of the most overlooked aspects of capturing in HD. Just because the images come in clean and shiny doesn't necessarily mean they look better that way.

Look forward to seeing the trailer.

Looking DAMN good, buddy! Hot actress. Great locations. Gritty style. 35mm-style selective focus. You're on your way, man!

could you post a screenshot from FCP of your curves settings?

btw, I second John in saying best. hvx footage. ever.

These stills are awesome. Very natural, and I mean that these don't look OVERLIT. Can't wait to see a trailer.

WOW! Man, to hear that from the likes of John Hudson and others, I'm truly flattered!

A big part of the image quality is due to this forum, DVXuser. It is SUCH AN AMAZING RESOURCE for us filmmakers and a lot of the stuff I learned came directly from everyone's postings. I should be thanking you all, especially Barry and Jarred.

As for color correction methods, I pretty much adjusted the extremes. Crushed the blacks and blew the highlights.

I'll be having a screening in the LA area around Oct or so. I'll keep everyone posted. Thanks again guys!

sincerely,
Andrew

Like everyone else I think they look pretty fantastic. The grain works and it looks so close to stuff like Munich of 21 Grams it's creepy. If I'd seen that on a sight I'd swear it was 35mm.

Yup, the film is about a particular illegal alien, based on a true story.

I drove down to the Mexicali boarder and did some total undercover shooting. There is a pedestrian bridge that goes over the 5 freeway just before you pass into Mexico. There were like a 100 cameras and 20 guards there but I was able to find a dead zone and I had my friends flanking my left and right to act as cover while I got the footage. True run-n-gun style. It's definitely a rush!

If you dont mind me asking, im curious what you paid for each lens and whered you get them?

My partner and i have a the same setup, HVX200 + M2 and Nikon Mount. Just gathering information about lenses and from your grabs, it seems like a great setup you got there.

Also, i can be needy huh, can you post a grab of one of the ones you already posted, but without any color correction? Like a before and after?
