WOW! STUNNING Z1 footage!!

The HD10 is garbage, but the Z1 is incredible. But, both Frederic and I directed some films on the HD10 that came out pretty decent, I think.

Not really the JVC JY-HD10 rivals the Sony HVR-Z1
The JVC GY-HD250 rivals Sony Cine Alta.

The HD10 doesn't even rival a 1 ccd DV camera, my friend. The HD250 doesn't even come CLOSE to the CineAlta, any of them. The F330, F350, F900, F950, etc. I haven't used the HD250 yet, but I've used the F900 and it's a KILLER camera.

The JVC GY-HD250 is capable of a high frame rate progressive capture utilizing 60 full frames per second in its 720p mode which makes it the best high definition camera to shoot the fast action sports

there is no way the GY-HD250 gets close to the cinealta. Personally I dont think the JVC gets close to Sony's XDCAM.

Of course Sony does have high end multi format cameras that are capable of shooting 1080p60 and 720p60. These obviously will blow away the JVC. But on an ESPN sports gig the JVC GY-HD250 can indeed rival the Sony $15,000 XD CAM HD F330 Cine Alta camera. The JVC can shoot native 720p60 but the Sony has to convert 1080i to 720p which means a loss of picture quality. The Sony has bigger chips but most sports events have adequate lighting so the JVC won't be at a disadvantage. Remember the JVC comes with detachable lenses so you can put expensive glass on it that costs more than the camera.

So you give only ONE specific instance of where the JVC is supposedly better, and even then because of the 1080i conversion to 720p? Heck, even just losing one field (50%!) of the 1080i would give you something only slightly lesser than 720p, let alone a properly de-interlaced 1080i.

Dropping one field of 1080i or shooting 1080p would result in a loss of temporal resolution from 60 frames per second to 30 frames per second which would not be too good for a sports gig on ESPN. Also remember people who boast that 1080i can be converted to 720p without loss usually do not render the image in real time. On a live broadcasting gig it is much better to shoot native 720p because the quality of an on the fly conversion is not too good.

Oh god, you are so stuck on this ESPN sports gig example arent you? If the "sole" purpose of buying your camera is for a live ESPN sports coverage, then by all means go ahead and buy your 720p JVC GY-HD250 camera, which you insist is better than the CineAlta.

The rest of us would prefer a CineAlta for film-making, and use some hardware to get a 720p conversion if desired.
