"The Faithful" Trailer, now online - HVX + M2

Hey,

Cool trailer. I could not log on the website. Is it down? I am in Canada and would love to see this movie. When can we expect the DVD release?

Chris

Hi Chris,

We're working on the DVD right now and aiming for a September release. I will definitely let everyone know when it's finished - right now there is still a lot of postproduction work to get done. In addition to the main film itself, we're also compiling behind the scenes footage and the like for the DVD, so hang in there - it's coming!

The website shouldn't be down (www.thefaithfulmovie.net), but right now there is just an image placeholder as I've been putting more of my efforts into finishing the movie than the publicity for it at this point. We do have a Myspace set up for the film, however, and that will probably have the most recent updates and information until the website goes "live" (probably sometime next month). The address for that is www.myspace.com/thefaithfulmovie.

Haakon - you got a parenthese at the end of your link that is causing it to fail - fix it so you dont lose eyes cause this is a great project

Hey Brandon!

Right now we're deep in post production, mostly doing audio work. There is a lot of sound mixing to be done and we're also reviewing footage with the composer who is hard at work on the score. I'm also personally overseeing the behind-the-scenes footage to be compiled for the DVD release. We were aiming for a screening this month, but I don't think everything will be ready quite that early. A bunch of us are working on a different super16 film this week, and next week I am heading up the M2 comparison shoot which will take a few days to shoot, edit, and get on the web for everyone to see. However, don't fret - we have been working very hard on this film and I will absolutely let everyone know when we have a date set! Hang in there. :)

wow looks really great, good job

wish i could work with all that equippement and actual crew members :D

Sorry guys, things have been crazy here. My webhost completely tanked, and without warning, just dissapeared - including all of my files and years of hard work (on another project I spearheaded, not related to filmmaking). The last two weeks have been very tiring, and I've had to work overtime to get things back up and running again (including finding a new host and allowing the domain to propagate sufficiently). During the downtime, the website was completely inaccessible - including the trailer and other information - so that's why people were getting errors. I apologize about that.

In much better news, however, we're making great progress with the film; we have hired a very amazing sound designer to help us complete that aspect of the film (you will definitely be familiar with his list of credits when I am able to post them), and the score is now 85% done. The film will be complete by September 26, and DVDs and the big screen premiere will take place in October. These things always take longer than we think, but I feel really good about the direction things have been headed and I can't wait to share the film with you.

For those who are interested or have not yet seen the trailer, it is back up on the front page of www.thefaithfulmovie.net. More information will be added to the website as the film gets completed (getting the film done is our first priority, but there will be PLENTY of supplemental material available shortly thereafter!). I really appreciate everyone's support and continued encouragement - everyone on the production team feels very blessed to have received the immense amount of kind words we have, and we will have something special for you very soon!

P.S. - Brandon, can this be moved to the new "user films" section? Thanks! :)
P.P.S. - 1,000 posts! :)

Just saw the trailer....HOW DID I MISS IT FOR SO LONG?!?!? It looks absolutely fantastic. You've nailed everything methinks. Great looking poster, great looking trailer, great plot and premise.

However i have 2 gripes:
#1 - 35 minutes long...Seems a bit short for the subject matter, but seeing the stuff you've done i have full confidence that you did.

#2 - The uber shallow dof occasionally got a bit irritating, along with the lapses in focus, but i suppose you didn't have a choice. It still looks amazing, despite that.

Anyway will anyone be able to see it? I would buy a dvd...

Hi Häak!

After several attempts, I got it... Did you receive my PM?

I watched the Faithful's trailer. HVX + M2 also, right?* Great cinematography look. KUDOS! Good score too.

Cheers amigo!

EDIT -- * (BTW the shooting specs) Forget it!... Now I already read all the thread's title where the info says what I posted, as well. At least, it was a good guess, I'm glad. :) Good job yours!

Hey everyone,

I've received a lot of PMs recently about The Faithful, so I decided that it was time to give everyone an update. First of all, thanks to everyone who has continued to show support for us as we try to get this film finished. Although it has taken much longer than expected (more on that below), we are still carrying on, there will still be a screening in Los Angeles, and DVDs will be available as soon as we can get them done. A lot of the delay has been out of our hands.

Unfortunately, at this time, the movie is still stuck in post production. The issue is a major problem in FCP - it's a bug in the software and not something that we have done wrong, but the bummer is that it has kept us from moving forward and completing the film. The good news is that we have been able to take the matter all the way to the engineers at Apple who actually author the software, and they're doing their best to resolve the problem. It is taking them a rather long time, however, and we do have a workaround (although the results will be less desirable), so the bottom line is that if we don't get a difinitive answer from them within a week, we're just going to finish the film in a different manner than we originally intended. Believe me, we all thought this would be finished back in August, so no one is more anxious to get it all wrapped up than we are.

The DVD is really nice and has some cool behind-the-scenes stuff, including some closeups of the rig in action, as well as interviews with both the cast and the crew, so you will be able to get a great look into how the production all came together. I will let everyone know our budget when everything is said and done, but I can say that if we had shot this on film, it easily would have cost us 3-4 times more. The HVX with the M2 is a very powerful combination, especially when DVD is the prime mode of delivery, and I can't wait to share our final product with everyone.

Thanks again for those who have been supportive from the beginning, and please keep your eyes peeled for information on the LA screening sometime next month. We would really love to see lots of DVXUsers there - even the director (who isn't a regular member of this forum) has seen the posts and is very thankful for the kind words.

More soon! :)

can you give us an idea what the bug is within final cut? sounds painful! good luck wrapping that mother out~

Hi wartez,

The problem has to do with keyframing with a 2.35 matte in place; I am not sure yet if they have been able to resolve the problem (and as it is Friday night, I am guessing that I won't hear from them again until Monday at the earliest), but I will definitely let everyone know the status of things as I hear them. My hope at the very least is that even if it is not in time for us to be able to work with the footage in the way we wanted to for this particular movie, our findings will help squash a bug that will be beneficial to others using FCP in the future. Thanks for your interest! :)
