Army enlistment. 2min short clip

Exquisite. Absolutely wonderful. Finally, something with some serious emotion and life to it. This is the best clip I've seen on this board to date.

It's almost like you caught a shooting star. You didn't just nail the quality, you also captured every single emotion present at the event that day. The video evolved. Bravo!
:)

I too thought it was very good. Really captures the emotion of what they must be feeling having to do that.

it was great, but my computer doesn't stream .wmv's very well at all (Mac G4) so I had to force quit safari just over 1 minute into the vid. i'd love to see a downloadable .mpg or .mov version!

That Kindof reminds me of my enlistment. Good music piece. Yep, i'm a Singaporean. So u videographing for SAF, Hobbes?

zizou: Yes I'm doing video for the army, as part of my 2 years service - getting to stayout, owning my own rover and having my own aircon office on my own; what more can i ask for? =)

Hey that's great, David. Although I would have used a sadder song..like funeral music...heh. You know these guys, going to the army, wasting two years of their lives, etc. Funeral music.

Anyway great composition especially for the first bit, and some nice dof there as well. I do feel that the wide hall scenes were a bit shaky but you definitely managed to capture the mood. All in its a great job!

Mmmm. just trying to draw heat with this line, eh? Regardless of your belief, that's a pretty crappy thing to say to an enlisted soldier.

That would be true normally, however I'm also in singapore, and in singapore its compulsory. In 2 years time i'll be down for mandatory national service as well, and i ain't looking forward to starting university 2 years late

I came back to this thread because I walked away from my computer and thought "Hmm... I wonder if that guy I commented to was from Singapore." I didn't notice it under your name, so I retract my previous statement. I assumed you were another American pissing all over any type of serviceman (it's become a trend here). My fault.

I know David in real life and I was the poor sod who got coerced into giving him that music piece so he knows it aint personal when I say that it’s a blatant and horrific desecration of my favorite music piece we used for Centerstage. Then again, I got it from Infernal Affairs so it’s somewhat paradoxical.

Anyway, from a filmmaking standpoint its a pretty good piece of work although I have issues with the content. I guess it could be interpreted in two ways: One, as a patriotic, nationalistic dedication to the enlistment of the armed forces of Singapore, or two, as an ode to the suffering and sacrifice our poor youth and their parents have to undergo for the sake of the nation's collective security. I personally favor the former. In my opinion, forced military service and drafting when a country is not at war is the trademark of tyranny, oppression, and authoritarianism.

Enlisting VOLUNTARILY for your country is a very honorable and courageous act - Being FORCED to isn't.
