within a month of owning it

importing data with the 35mm static adapter on
thing falls when i trip over power cord
from the focus ring onward wants to fall forward, ill include pics when i can find a place to upload them
i put it back and the camera works totally fine (i think)
if i put the static adapter back on the part from the focus ring onwards falls forward so I'll have to get a rod support system--can i fix this part myself? it seems like a fairly removable part (it seems like i broke the top and not the bottom as it stays on the bottom part

is there anyplace that can fix this?

jesus i feel terrible, im trying to be pragmatic about fixing the problem but dammit, my whole summer was this camera

anyway please PLEASE respond with as much info as possible.

the focus ring seems like it could be pushed in to the camera a bit more...that seems to be the part that is broken, from that part in the camera out to the lens, but the lens seems to be in the right place (image looks fine)

anyway jesus help me

to update i used the staic adapter on the beast while makign sure the ring didnt fall off and it works very well so the camera and lens are fine--its the plastic peices that are fkt.

how much does a repair cost? will panasonic do it? im thinking about opening it up and seeing the damage, any reports? i wont do anything until i hear form you guys

the image is fine, the camera (the part that holds the zoom ring and focus ring to the 72mm glass peice at the end of the thing) is what is broken at the top.

i have images from when it fell and then when i pushed it back in (its still off a bit but it can fall off so i cant use the static adapter (until I get rods))

where can i upload images

serious replys only please, and please help
i feel so terrible--i was crying and i almost threw up, ****

Look above you... Top of page about center across. Member Upload Center. Try doing a search, I believe Barry Green and at least one other user have repaired theirs similar to what you have. Totally sux to have that kind of thing happen.

And for future referance:

1) Don't capture with a DVX, you will wear down your heads - use a cheap MiniDV camcorder instead. Run a search for details.

2) Don't plug your camera into the wall for power and into the firewire of your computer at the same time. You can discover voltage potential diferances that can fry your camera's firewire port. Run a search for details.

Please take a look at the photos from my first post and let me know more information if you guys have any.

Thanks

Is this true for all camera's? I plug my cheap consumer cam into the wall for ongoing power and into the firewire for capture and live preview from Vegas Video. I have done this for a long time now, so far without any trouble...do I need to invest in a battery farm so I can do live previews on my all night editing sessions?

My wall charger connects via a plate that fits in the same place where the battery would go. Wouldn't this be the same as having the battery connected?

Thanks,
Larry

Heh, well yes theoretically it's possibel any time that 2 power sources are mixed:
Camera powered from the wall, and Firewire powered from the computer's power supply (which converts, makign it different to teh wall it's plugged into)

Normally not an issue, but some gear is more sensetive than others - the DVX is paticularly sensitive.

my laptop only has a 4-pin firewire port... thus, power is not transfered to the dvx... this would make plugging in my camera and capturing on my computer safe, right? -- also, quick question, if you had to choose between two purchases:

1) a letus35a adapter
or
2) a cheap minidv cam to capture with

what would it be?

The MiniDV cam.

And the currect can flow beteen any electrical connection. The ground line in the 4-pin FW can also fry your camera.
