** Demo Reel Update **

I dig the music from "Oldboy". hahhaa.

Those first shots look like they were shot on film. Were they?

Vey impressive demo reel.

Me like.

Would be interesting to have a breakdown of what was shot on which equipment.

Great looking footage, but its cut so that just as I'm getting into really looking at the scene, taking in all that is going on with the cinematography, there is an edit.

thats just me though... I'd make the cuts a little longer to show off the set ups, the lighting, the exposure, the composition...

$.02

Very impresive work, Norm!
I´d also like to see more, but I guess producers and directors need to see your skills in a short time, so this is cool...
Though you seem to do a lot of film now, hows your G35 beta doing and do you have any clue when the G finally will come out?

Hey thanks!

Yeah, that's the problem I'm dealing with...having to cut out more and more stuff I shot in the past (or shorten them) to add new material I have shot within a short song...which I have used for almost 2 years now (great song!) and perfect for my reel...I don't want to change songs really and don't really want a longer demo reel as I think I want to keep it 'short and sweet' so that people want to watch more after seeing it.

I do agree that I would like to drag some clips out longer but that would mean dumping another good shot! I guess as long as producers/directors who see this will see my 'diversity' of shooting styles so that's probably very important.

I don't have the Beta unit of the G35...only used it a bunch of times to shoot but not for a while now. I'm still waiting for the commercial version to come out as I think it's the best adaptor out there.

I think 80% of my reel there is 35mm, 16mm, 5% HD, and 15% DVX stuff.

Nice. I saw some new dramatic stuff, with the kids. That last shot is a nice ending.

What song is that? It's from Oldboy? I should get the soundtrack.

I think the cutoff titles are really distracting. My eye is drawn right to them instead of the images.

Nice work. What kind of stuff are you working on now?

Cheers,

Matt

Yep! That's my buddy Chayse. We worked together a lot! I Op a lot of his projects.

Damn. Reel is lookin good man. I gotta get some of that Ashes Fall footy on my reel. I can't wait till it goes back to Color Correction for its online edit... Hey we should try to capture it uncompressed HD off the online master at rainmaker so we dont have to rent a deck, or at least just test it... while its free right. Mb a good test for the Castro video?

Digging your footage Norm, and of course great track choice. The tempo is a little off for me, but these things are subjective. The track is in two parts, so I was expecting your calmer shots, longer cuts and slo-mo in the first half, then more up tempo stuff in the second. You've got the slo-mo foot coming down to bridge sections, though I felt at that point you should be throwing me into the second part...ie quick motion, high drama / tension.

I think what you're seeing is timecode burn-in :)

Nice looking footage. Wish you had a higher-res copy online to look at!

Very nice demo.... Good to have the switch in the middle to more upbeat stuff. kind of depressing and sad images in the beginning.. but turns around nicely...

I enjoy it the way you have it. Assuming this is a DP reel and not a director reel, personally I think the quick short cuts work better.

I have seen reels with long scenes cut together and I find myself watching the scene rather than evaluating the ability of the DP. This reel had me locked into your skill with the camera. I saw a great variety of shots that showed a wide range of talent/ability.

Just my $0.02...but what do I know :) Looks good to me.

Thanks. This is a Cinematography reel so it's a mix between DP'ing and Operating. Definitely not directing...I'm not a director by a long shot. ;)
