Hi,

I dont own an HVX200 yet, but would like to capture 720P (24fps & 30fps) in the field and I dont want to be hooked up to a computer, and need more record time that the p2 allows, can this camera be used to capture 1080x720 progressive sized frames to it's MiniDV tape deck?

If I were to get a laptop, what specs would be sufficient,

hard disk space?
Ram?
Processor Speed?
Hard drive Speed RPM?

Ya, Apples new ones. I strongly recommend doing a search on the word Laptop. You will get some great discussions.

One of the best solution's release is eminent. You might want to consider Serious Magic's DVC Rack. This should be about the best solution out there. Not only is it a capture device, it comes with an impressive array of additional capabilities.

Well I'm using a G4 Powerbook which is currently following me around northern India and off loading viewing etc is a breeze in FCP (well it would be if there weren't so many power cuts!)

Indy... in India!

you only need a cheap ass laptop with a pcmcia slot unless you have money to burn.

If he's trying to capture to something other than a P2 card, HD rack is the cheapest solution if you've already got a laptop that'll run it.

Sounds cool Indy! Can you give your workflow regarding use of the G4? Are you off loading from P2 via PCMCIA to external FW drives? Is the G4 (which one?) powered in the field? Thanks.

They do. It's DVCPRO-HD tape. A deck costs just $25,000.

(which is the thing about P2, without it this camera couldn't even exist).

I have a HP Pavillion zv600 laptop (AMD Athlon 64+ Proc), 1 GB ram and USB 250 GB ext HDD, WinXP pro SP 2, DV rack 2.0, Aspect HD 4.2, Premiere pro 2.0 and have no problem capturing (to DV rack 2.0) on location from my HVX200 in 1080i 24p, Fast converting from P2 (Aspect HD 4.2), and editing and finishing (Premiere pro 2.0)

We just finished a short feature wich is going to blow up to 35mm.

My world is marvellous now with those tools!!!
