Go see it!! What a great remake. I'm a big fan of the original. Kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time, and I knew the ending! I have to say I enjoyed it better than MI3 and I like Tom Cruise!
Check it out. Especially the opening tracking shot. It is up there with that long tracking shot in WOTW . Just my2 cents!

LOOK OUT! A "ROGUE WAVE!"

I paid $20 to take my mom to see this because she doesn't like Tom Cruise, but Poseidon isn't worth stealing on the internet.

There are some minor redeeming moments -- my mom cried during one scene, but overall, this flick is atrocious.

I worked on Poseidon. It was a gas. A ton of greenscreen stuff. We worked on a giant gimball in the scenes where the ship is turning over. people flying on cables and running into stuff. The set we were on was actually part of the ceiling with the chandeliers built into the floor.

wow i'm surprised at all the negative reviews here. i really enjoyed the film. definitely on par with the original IMO. the cast was great. Josh Lucas was superb. I can't wait to see what he does next. he's a great actor... kurt russel was great, emmy rossum was great, richard dreyfuss was good, and i found myself liking the kid in this movie better than the one in the original...

i'd recommend going to see it...

It' was weak IMO, yeah the FX were great, and I'd catch any flick with Kurt Russell or josh lucas. The Acting was good but the script was crap... what's wolfgang thinking, I mean he committed so much story to a movie like troy, and then follows up with this. ????

Not planning on seeing it. I didn't like the original so...

There was a rash of disaster movies in the 70s and they even included some exceptional actors:
Poseidon Adventure...Gene Hackman
Towering Inferno...Steve McQueen, Paul Newman, William Holden, Faye Dunaway, Fred Astair
Earthquake...Charlton Heston, Ava Gardner, George Kennedy
Airport...Burt Lancaster, Dean Martin, George Kennedy, Helen Hayes
Meteor...Sean Connery, Natalie Wood (yumyum), Karl Malden

seems like they were all doing it, that didn't make it right. They were collecting a paycheck, even quality actors have to eat... :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG) Crappy melodramas, why should we remake them today with lesser quality actors.

Hey I was comparing it to MI3 as far as a entertaining escape reality movie. But I have to say if you haven't seen it why are you posting???

Pardon me. I didn't know you were personally invested in the film... I'll make sure to ignore your threads in the future so as not to upset you further. :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

I simply stated that I wasn't planning to see it, then cited the original and a slew of disaster-of-the-week movie comtemporaries to back up my reasoning. I cast no aspersions on your taste regarding said movie. So what's the problem?

Boys, boys, boys, it's a movie. Why they made it was to make money and they will, whether you like it or not, and whether you post negatively or not. Who cares if you see it, enough people will see it to pay for it, AND make money. It's a BUSINESS.......

I LOVED this film! Really did! I was on the edge of my seat the entire time! Lots of great white knuckle moments! My buddy Kevin worked on the film for two weeks doing stunts... He did a fire burn among other things, so I knew it would be action packed. Much better film then MI3 IMO!

Thanks briceman you saw my point. I was only talking about MI3. Plus you saw the movie which always helps!

Watched it this evening

Not at all as bad as it seems to have been made out to be. A worthy rental.

Some scenes are much more mature than I would have gave the film credit for.

3 of 5 Stars from me

Sorry, but i felt cheated... At the end I was wondering why they didn't just bust into one of the cabins kick the window out and escape. end of movie. Towering Inferno was a much more believable and entertaining picture IMO.

Nice John, glad you enjoyed it! It was one of my top films this summer... pretty good film all around, good flow, good acting, and it kept me at the edge of my seat :)

My wife and I had the misfortune of renting this mess of a film a couple nights ago. Wow.

Horrible, horrible, horrible movie. I was appalled when I realized this was from the guy who gave us A Perfect Storm and Troy.

I cannot remember the last time I've heard such cheezy dialogue. (Actually I can, we also just watched The Sentinel. Bad run of flicks lately!) And the plot?!?!? How hard would it have been to come up with AT LEAST one action scenario that we haven't seen a million times over?? It literally took all of my willpower to take this thing through to the credits.

Great special effects though. (Gosh, it's pitiful when that's all you can say about a film.)

Perhaps because the entire TOPSIDE was upside down and underwater ? Remind me not too follow you into the ships bowells during this crisis.

Really Jaustere ? I found TROY a major disapointment while The Perfect Storm was less than stellar and more a monument in SFX. Wolfgang hasn't made a really good film since Air Force One I think, but Das Boot was his Swan Song.

Hollywood hasn;t been exactly wowing us lately, so I was surprised that this was much better than the 'drivel' everyone was making it out too be.

RT says 31 % 4.8
IMDB says 5.6

I liked the maturity of the film: When homeboy tells Dreyfuss to drop the guy in the elevator shaft. That was balsy. The death of homegirl. The death of Kurt. THe story touches of Dreyfus being gay, Dillon's asshat character ...

I don't know; it did $60,000,000 domestic ... I would have predicated atleast $80,000,000. It seemed no better / no worse than the usual crap Howood has been putting out

Yeah, I agree with ya about the maturity of the film... specifically when Dreyfuss kicked the dude into the shaft, man! I was like, DANG! All of it really worked for me. What'd you think of MI:3 in comparision to this film? I found this film much better.
