NEW! Sony V1 (with 25P)!

Well-known member
busy day today from Sony, who announced their new FX7 camera to the world.

This just in minutes ago. Sony just announced the replacment for the Z1, the Sony V1.

And get this folks it's a 3 CMOS 24P camera. Sony stepped up in a big way this time.

Here's the site and the link to the downlaodable pdf file.

There isn't a direct link to the web page, so if you like just click on the Sony announcement on the top left side of the page.

Where do you get the idea it's 24p? It's 25p in the European version, which would likely mean 30p here in the States. Has there been some announcement somewhere that mentions 24p?

I think we can now stop running in conclusions (either sides) and wait for the facts.

If they only have 25P, you could always hope they release a dual(PAL/NTSC)model as they did with the z1.

I've read this IS a dual model (NTSC/PAL).

I just find it hard to believe, I'm the only one concerned, that this cam has 1/4" image sensors. No one, and no "specs", say otherwise.

It's actually not a bad looking thing- getting
true 25p to 24p is a simple function in apps like FCP.

Where? I haven't seen that info.

It is 1/4". The specs for field of view match up with what one would expect from 1/4". The chips are 4:3 960x1080 1/4" CMOS.

The thing is, this is a totally different beast. Is 1/4" that bad seeing as it's CMOS instead of CCD? According to the interview on camcorderinfo, it'll look sharper than an FX1 in bright daylight, but won't be able to compete in low light with the FX1.

i'm curious about the slow motion function

The slow-motion function gives you 1/4 resolution at 4x speed, so 120fps of 240 lines. Apparently the existing HC3 camera does the same thing already.

Barry,

I read that it's a dual model (NTSC/PAL) at sonyhdvinfo.com, the info is kind of in a buried mess over there right now, and it could be wrong.

If the V1 does turn out to be a 1/4" chipper, my interest level drops to zero.

Since I've got your ear, could you please tell me how long it usually takes for a cam, currently in prototype tests, to actually ship? :)

Thanks.

Just found it again. It's on this page.

No, it differs among manufacturers and what issues they need to face. But I believe they said the V1 would be out in November. And yes it's 1/4", 4:3, 960x1080 CMOS.

Yes, what gives?! It says in the specs 1920x1080. I'm starting to feel this is too good to be true and now this camera is showing it's true colors.

I think people are confusing the HV1 and the FX-7. Nowhere have I read that the HV1 has a 1/4 sensor size, though the FX7 does.

Well, no point in hair-splitting over this. IBC is right here right now. Lets just wait and see. Mikko, where are you?!

this link here:

http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showpost.php?p=694575&postcount=8

it says something quite different than 4:3  chips !!..

"Sony’s 16:9 1/4in. ClearVid CMOS chips deserve special note, because these wonders introduce a pixel grid that’s tilted 45 degrees, such that pixels that would ordinarily be square are diamond shaped. This makes possible a new zigzag-shaped co-siting of pixels that’s beyond the scope of this short description. Not a pixel-shifting technique, the configuration effectively multiplies the resolution of these 1/4in. chips."

Well, that does indeed say 16:9. Interesting. Earlier reports had said 4:3. Either way, they're still 960x1080 using an interpolation technique (their words, not mine) to get the image up to 1920x1080.

Will the 1/4" cmos chips produce an even greater DOF than the 1/3" ccd's?
I wonder if it will still have the shot transition function like the Z1?
Also I wonder if the component and HDMI outputs before compression?
