Osama BL in New York

Just a little clip from last year's Halloween....Went to the parade in plainclothes and was disillusioned by the poor costumes, so I went home and dressed up and had a friend shoot me in the subway and the streets of downtown NY.
Silly and not professional. I'm putting together a pro quality sketch unrelated to this, hopefully will be done in a couple months.

Myspace and youtube have incredibly inferior quality video. If anyone can recommend where to upload free clips in high quality please let me know.

Love it love it! and Carmina Burana! kept laughing throughout.

the parade is always the bomb, but yah, the creativity has been lacking in recent years.

as for the quality issue, yer gonna need to get your own site --

I dunno man, strike's me as very disrespectful to be running around like that. Especially in N.Y. What happens when a family member who's relative died in the attack see's you running around dressed up like that, and breaks down sobbing in front of you?

Believe me, I'm no angel over here, and I NEVER get offended (and I'm not)... I'm just taking other peoples' feelings into consideration.

If you were at a party or something, then I'd understand better. Hell, I saw plenty of people dressed as Osama down here last halloween, and couldn't care less, but with the mass quantity of people in New York, and the amount of people killed in the attack, you very well could have done some serious damage to someone trying to cope with a loss.

eh... whatever. Just how it came across to me. Time for a drink.

I can see how arabs and other middle eastern peeps would find this offensive. I mean how would you like it if some arabs started dressing up as GW Bush and started making monkey noises..oh wait, they already do. In that case, it's okay. It's very funny. I love stereotypes.

Good Grief! What are you trying to do, get arrested or really shot?
This was really poor quality shooting and editing. Not to mention in very poor taste.

Not to mention, you didn't look anything like Osama bin Laden...

I guess this might have been something if you'd come up with some kind of point, or planned out the shots to add up to something. But you running around in an "Arab" outfit, hiding behind trees and ****...it's just not...anything.

And I find it hard to believe there were not more creative options than THAT at the parade last year...

I'm arab, I'm muslim, and I do find it in poor taste. And that one poster who said "oh wait arabs DO make fun of Bush so we can make fun of Osama"...well, come on man...I hear more compplaints about Bush from americans than I ever have from any arabs I know. Not fair, not funny.

Saiaf, Bin Laden deserves to be taken the piss out off. I am not saying just because the arabs take the piss out of Bush that it's a justification to take the piss out of Bin Laden, Bin Laden doesn't mean much to the people down there anyway. He's not like a hero or anything.

Although I find it mildly satisfying to have inadvertently started a political discussion, I am genuinely surprised by it.
I live in New York and was here during 9/11. It appears there are two reasons for defensive responses to my clip. Some people feel it is disrespectful to those affected by 9/11. Then there are others who take offense to what is to them an egregious parody of a bad guy who is Muslim. Well he is a bad guy, no? What about all the other generic Halloween getups such as OJ, Saddam etc? These are murderers as well. As Yas observed in the previous post, if he can piss on Bush why can't we piss on him?
It is unfortunate that people are so sensitive in America, every joke which is not self-depricating always in danger of being attacked as racist, bigoted, elitist, xenophobic. If America had its way, a child under 18 would never be allowed to see a woman's nipple. Because he (or she) may start masturbating, and this may progress to a desire to enjoy the natural instinct of sexual pleasure with another person. However he may then lose control and become a sex maniac. A rapist, a Sodomite, a Communist, a drug dealer, a prostitute, a knife wielding killer! How is it that in Europe nudity and parody are an integral part of the mentality? No doubt those who bristle at this silly clip have a hard time swallowing the likes of South Park and any British humor. Aren't we, aspiring filmmakers, writers, directors, etc, more than anyone else, obliged to be an open minded, provocative bunch?
New York fortunately is an ecclectic metropolis, and although I was warned by friends that my spectacle may be received with hostility, I was never nervous about it for a moment. I suppose I had an intrinsic faith in New Yorkers. And----it was Halloween!!!!!! I was greeted with nothing but cheers and mobs of spectators stopping to take pictures with me. Whites, Blacks, Muslims, tourists---all appreciated my display: a terrorist fleeing from vengeful victims of his barbarity. Which was the joke. There were actually more scandalous moments not caught on tape--I ran out--such as one where an agreeable Jesus and myself exchanging simulated fellatio on each other in the middle of the fenced off parade on 5th Ave (or Chistopher St I can't remember), and another where I crept up behind police officers as onlookers howled with glee.
I promise I'll bring more tapes next time.

SAGINAW!?!?!?!?!? oh wow. what goes on up in steering column land?

Lol....I actually did laugh out loud when I originally saw that post. No offense Saginaw.

Btw I am uploading a higher quality version of the clip and will change the link when it's up, probably this evening.

Thanks for the (intermitent) positive comments. As in the disclaimer in my first post, this is not pro quality--the friend who was shooting me had never used a camcorder before!

davidpula - I couldn't agree more with you. I think some of you here need to see the Monty Python sketch "Never Be Rude To An Arab" or at least hear it.

BTW I am british.

Thx have you seen The Catherine Tate Show, Little Britain, A League of Gentlemen? Those are brilliant comics. Also of course Laurie and Fry, French and Saunders, Monty Python, Rowan Atkinson etc. It's a shame these have never been in the American mainstream.

Really - none of these have? You're missing a big thing America! At least you got the office. You all need to watch 'Time Trumpet' and 'the might boosh' on the BBC. Classic stuff.

Check it out here

Nevermind you guys gave us Lost.

Sadly though BBC America is not that generous with the variety of comedy shows aired here. I just saw the bird flu clip of time trumpet....LOLOL. My favorite older BBC shows other than those previously mentioned are On the Buses, Murder Most Horrid, You Rang Mylord, Allo Allo, Mr Bean, there are certainly more I can't think of now.
