really bad screan grab from the hvx shot in sd

Did you shoot this in interlaced mode? Doesn't look nearly as good as the progressive DV and I believe Barry was warning about this on the site.. I personally have shot it and didnt' notice it as being very bad.. but the 24p and 30p DV look awesome.

And watch your v detail settings. I did some testing last week with the detail freq settings and i noticed this too. I saw this only with detail was set on thick.
Try mid or thin.

Martijn.

yeah, Barry did say that the interlaced sd wasn't all that, and was commenting on how long it took anyone to realize it, cause no one was using it for that.
Have you thought about dvcpro 50? I don't know for sure but would that give you a longer record time than 720pn on your card?

720pn takes up less space than DVCPRO 50. 720 24PN runs at 40Mbits/sec whereas DVCPRO 50 runs at 50Mbits/sec. If you shoot any other 720 format, then DVCPRO 50 will take up less space.

hmm that is a very messy pic, I can see and bet you are majorly going.. WHAT THE HECK!! I think the people who have dropped this insight have something going.

Why shoot DV? Seriously! We have HD now!!!! I would love to see some footage in HD from ya, your composition is promising.

I really should not have posted that image. it was shot 480i/24 p. I'm not sure where the image degradation came from. I did shoot in lp my mistake. The motion blur is there, but I don't know why the edges are staircased. Serious newbie action

well at least i know what it looks like in SD/interlaced mode. i'll be sure to buy the P2 cards when i make the purchase this week for sure :)

Looks like 60i. The HVX simply cannot do 60i, it looks terrible, no way around it. You need to shoot 24P or 30P if you are in SD. If you dont want to edit in 24P, then dont choose the advanced mode. I suspect this issue had to due with the upconversion from 960X540 up to 1080 then back to 480 without progressive. If you want to shoot 60i, Sony or Canon are the better choice.

ash =o)

This thread sucks. I'm sorry i started it. But just for the record, that video still comes from a 24 p shoot. So quit bugging me about 60i. There's staircasing on the edges, shot progresive, captured to I movie. If you are such an f' in tech head, then tell me why this happened. And please don't mention interlaced, cause I'll think you are a bigger looser than me for trying to pen me as an interlaced videographer.
