Parts of clip missing in P2 viewer

Hi,

I've started using an HVX, I hope I'm doing something wrong.

I'm using a Windows laptop and PC Viewer to look at some clips on a P2 card. Some of them have a pink exclaimation mark next to them, which the manual says means that part of the clip is missing because it was recorded across multiple cards. I've only got one card in the laptop's slot, so this makes sense to me.

I thought this problem would go away when I coped the contents of both cards to my hard drive. I made a separate folder for each card, then used the virtual P2 card feature to view multiple folders. However, the missing media mark is still there.

I had a similar problem when I connected the camera directly to my Macintosh and copied everything to the hard drive. When I tried to open some of the clips in Final Cut (via the P2 Import feature), the app says the clip is damaged.

Regards,
Fergus

Ah: I think I figured it out. If I have clips that span cards, I've got to copy the clips via P2Viewer, not Windows Explorer.

So, what can I do about the clips I've already copied via Explorer and that are now unlinked? Can I copy all the files under the Contents directory into one big folder then point P2Viewer at that directory?

I haven't found anything about this workflow in the manual or on-line. If there's something I should read that would explain this, I'd appreciate a reference. I searched this forum but didn't find anything relevant.

thanks,
Fergus

Other than simple backing up of whole P2 cards - I would never do any file manipulation outside the P2 veiwer.

The exclamation denotes a split clip which if you then import the 2nd part of the clip (on the following P2 card) it rejoins them upon import into the P2viewer.

Can you start from scratch and perform all your manipulation in the P2viewer? And use on big virtual P2 drive to put all your clips into...

I'm not sure what I was doing wrong the first time but this now works ok. I don't need to combine cards in P2Viewer. I just need to copy them using the OS to the hard drive, then I can import them using FCP. I get several clips but they link together perfectly in the timeline (i.e., one follows the other with no gap or overlap).

thanks,
Fergus

I'm trying to dowload some footage from (2) 8gb P2 cards to my PC. I inserted one P2 card and copied all of the files to my secondary bin. One of the clips has a pink exclamation point. I inserted the second P2 card and tried to copy all of the clips to the secondary bin and I got this message "the following clips already exist with the same Global Clip ID. Do you want to overwrite it?"

Anyone know what's going on here?

Copy each P2 card to a separate folder on your hard drive. In the P2 viewer, make each of the folders a virtual P2 card. Create a destination folder and make it a virtual P2 card. Set up the primary bin to view all virtual P2 cards. Set up the secondary bin to view the destination folder virtual P2 card only. Then select all clips in the primary bin and drag them to the secondary bin. When the copy completes, the destination folder will have all the clips complete, including the ones that spanned multiple P2 cards.

or, spend the best $29 bucks you will ever spend for P2Genie and you can avoid jumping through all those hoop (and having to hold your tongue "just right" in the process). I think there is a trial version.

BTW, Edius Broadcast asks that question too, "the following clips already exist with the same Global Clip ID. Do you want to overwrite it?"
The answer (in Broadcast) would be no.
