Grabs from new super epic action movie (DVX102b, PD170, XL2)

hmm i like the contrast in your cc', but i was thinking of a blue/ greyish look. I have this notion that fight scenes should be cold and clinical

Here are some screengrabs before real cops came and distrupted my shoot...
last 3 was shot with a PD170

Here's a subtle CC job. All I really tried to do was get rid of the "video" look by softening it up. I also evened out the gamma curve, fixed the levels, and brought out a tad more red tone while bringing out the midtones. You can see the biggest difference in the reflection off the car's rear window:

The shots look awesome. Pity about the real cops coming though. This MUST be re-shot haha. Would be a real waste and pity if it weren't....

Anyway, I believe that the first few stills were from David's XL2. Correct me if I'm wrong haha.

story_of_yesterday: Yes thats really neat.. what did u do to that?

tommy, I like it, the softening and stuff, I used my xl2 to shoot that, do u think I crushed the black too much on my cam settings?

I'm gonna try to reshoot this soon.. sigh I am afraid I may be running out of time for videomaker sony contest.. :(

Malcolm bad luck about the bust but hey ... I cant imagine why? :P

Story last one looks pretty neat... Id tone down the central light about 20% starting to look a little too unrealistic. Photoshop?

I added basic color grading to it as I do most everything I touch. Desaturate by about 50% of the actual color, then boost the contrast and add different layers of color (highs meds and lows). Mostly tho, I just rendered lighting effects on two different layers: the first being the all around lighting (the bright back, which is too bright... I accidentally did the back twice...) and then another layer with narrow beams coming from the flashlights on the weapons. that's pretty much it.

And if you didn't notice, the other two grabs before the one I just described have very slight lighting effects added to them. can you guess where?

Malcolm,

I just saw this, after you posted in my thread. This looks awesome. And you're 16?????? Damn. There have been several guys like you on the board, doing what looks like very cool stuff at such a young age. Part of me is thrilled and can't wait to see the actual film. And part of me just feels OLD...:(

Anyway, this stuff looks pretty exciting. I guess I agree on the CC stuff everyone is doing, but I would be more curious to see some footage in motion to see how dynamic the action and performances are. That's the thing that's so great about Woo's (HK) work (I think I read that was an influence), is the actors he has and amidst all the gunplay and action, the great performances they give.

Haha yeah. Malcolms 16 and I was barely 17 when we filmed this. Malcolm will post some raw footage here soon I think. Just a 30 second clip or something just for kicks. I'll begin editing next week once I move into my appartment. Just moved here from 10,000 miles away so yeah... Haha. Thanks for the compliment, mate. Yep John Woo was definately an influence.
