What do you think of David Lehre

I have no feeling toward him.. never met him in person so how could I possibly tell what he is like? All I can do is form an opinion of what he has done is doing. I dont see anything special, but the kid can talk for a young guy and thats a big plus.

ugh. i dont really want to get started on this kid. i actually have seen much better filmmakers with much better ideas online who arent noticed at all. you can tell he thinks he's hot ****. i just hope he knows that his fame will die, very soon. he is not very talented, he just has ideas that appeal to teens and people will be hot on his nuts for a while, but hes not really going anywhere insane i can tell. he got the myspace crown cause of that movie, but everyone will get over it and realize that in the end, hes not all that talented. he just has a good budget, a cast of hella people, and some half-assed ideas

Homeboy is lame, and I agree... lots more talent out there... sucks when some dude with a gimick gets a break like that.

I agree. I feel like he has some funny ideas but nothing to special. I dont really see him as a "filmmaker". He makes sketches, and there is alot more talented people who deserve a break like he is getting. He came through with the right idea at the right time and its paying off, so Ill give him that.

its all about timing.... :D

Yes it is. Honestly the guy did nothing wrong but make a film and it got seen. Isn't that the goal? He didn't make it to get famous he made it because he thought it was funny. He admits he has no actual filmmaking experience and honestly if you have the teen crowd and can keep them you may have millions of dollars coming your way. Again I say it's not charity. At least I do this for fun and profit. I'm in the middle of a film now, I'll distribute it myself before I give it away. I hope I can get as lucky as this kid did.

Was it lame? Yes. Funny? Yes. The real question the big wigs want to know: Is there money to be made. Answer: Possibly. You really can't be upset at a guy because you don't like his film and he got famous. I think a lot of films suck but I'm not mad at the directors for being famous. Someone obviously thought there was money to be made. As a person whose dealt with Hollywood types you'll find a lot worse than him.

"Ideas that appeal to teens"
And to me, this "Myspace" movie doesn't offer up much more.

This dude had the right project at the right time. His other work is highly mediocre. Even the MySpace "movie" was mediocre, just beat everyone to it. If you read his site he makes everyone believe he is doing bigger things than he is. Why anyone would broadcast their "deals" to everyone in cyberspace is beyond me, unless they are very insecure. He has the attitude he is Oprah's gift to new media. If you watch his cheese interview on CurrentTV he brags how you don't need to know anything about "film" and all that, come on, ridiculous. He poops on the masters of the industry like he is just as great and they better watch out. Not to mention the cheesy "clothing line" he has blessed us with at www.vendettastudios.com. The kid rips off many streetwear labels and has no orgininality. The kid really thinks people love him so much they are gonna rock clothing promoting his "studio." The kid wouldn't be such a tool if he didn't broadcast his "success" everywhere, like he has multiple Oscars coming his way in the future. He needs to check himself to the max.

right place , right time ... has a certain flare ... and NOT from NYC or LA ..
appealing to a certain age group ...
bottom line- knows how to jump on the marketing bandwagon ..
when you're HOT - try to cash in ...
i think the "big" head is part of the appeal ...
so when does the MOVIE on/about them come out ?

not a fan. at all

I think that main actor of his is the only one in thier group with any talent.

I dont have much respect for someone cashing in on something thats popular at the time and selling thier soul for cash..... maintaining no level of art. You may say "well...you'd have done it if you'd have thought of it"...

fock no...I'd rather not make it at all....and i'm not joking or just saying it. Really...i'd rather die a failure than sell-out...or whatever it is he's doing.

Can't really say anything negative about him. He is making the best of what he has going for him, at least it looks that way. But that myspace movie does suck.

Interesting thread. Definitely shows that there are two ways to approach this kind of thing.

Personally, I don't subscribe to the outlook that filmmaking is all about money and it doesn't matter what you do or how terrible your stuff is as long as you're "making it happen," though I can respect those who feel that way. Just different strokes for different folks, I suppose. At any rate, it doesn't seem like this guy has a whole lot going for him and if he's as cocky/rude as he appears/most people seem to say he is, then ultimately that will limit what he's capable of doing. That's not to say he can't be "successful;" there are plenty of successful assholes out there. But what you have to ask yourself is are you happy being who you are and doing what you're doing, or is the fame/"success" more important than anything else, even at the cost of your character? That's a choice we all have to make... apparently it's easier for some than others.
