Trailer for short film SINGULARITY

Pretty cool Batutta. Is the film anywhere near finished? I'd love to see it if you can post it.

Broham, you've got some sweet looking travelings going on. Did you use a dolly? Which one? Care to share what did you use to lit it? How about CC? Congrats. It looks pretty cool.

Thanks guys. I'm nearly done, trying to finish for Sundance submission. I bought a finished skateboard dolly from ebay for 90 bucks. It works great. I can't seem to find the seller anymore to post the info. The hard part was laying the track but I figured out a pretty easy coupling system with smaller PVC and masking tape. I lit the film almost entirely with practicals -- Daylight tubes hung overhead in a fixture, a warm desk lamp for fill, and a tabletop compact fluorescent work light from sears to simulate the glow from the computer monitors. My crew was a grand total of one, ME, or two if you count my actor, who helped put the set together in his garage. I had to push the dolly, monitor sound, watch focus and feed the actors lines all at the same time. Needless to say, we did a lot of takes, but tape is cheap. Not much color correction, just used the nattress film effect filters and film gamma plug in. As for needing to know what happens, you'll have to wait until I post the film when it's done in the next few weeks.

Shot on the FX1, 1080i 60fps, no cine gamma, color at +7. Added nattress film effect plug ins in Final Cut to simulate a 24p look. I also used the nattress film gamma plug in to give the footage a little more pop, but it barely needed it. For the news footage I shot against a piece of green plastic tablecloth roll. It keyed out very nicely, although I degraded the final comp to make it look like it was playing off a TV screen.

Man, that website has some very cool affordable dollies! But those boards look a little small to handle a tripod. You wouldn't happen to have pictures of your camera/tripod mounted on the dollie, would you?

P.S - Sorry for crashing the thread

No pictures at the moment. The one I got, 24 x 24, is big enough for your average tripod. I just bungeed it onto the dolly and it held on fine. Since I had no one to push me I just walked alongside for the moves. Took some practice but it works. The craftsmanship is excellent too. I'm 6'5' and around 250 lbs and it supported my weight just fine.

That is a hunk of junk, and although it would work fine with the dolly, I suggest investing in a good tripod and head. I used this setup--

Same sticks and and 501 manfrotto head. The head is unbelievably forgiving and will make some really smooth pans. Not cheap, but this is one thing you absolutely cannot scrimp on, unless you plan on doing all static shots. At the very least buy a great fluid head like the 501 and find some cheap sticks to go with it, or build your own.
