Using DVX as a video convertor for external monitor

Quick question.

I,m using FCP to edit and monitoring via firewire into my DVX. I'm then taking a video output from the DVX into an external monitor.

When I edit, I edit for hours, so I'm wondering, how long can I safely leave the DVX powered up for and is there any chance of doing damage to the camera by leaving it powered up for long periods of time?

Cheers

Not really. The only concern I would have is possibly blowing the FireWire port on your DVX. I've heard that's more likely on a Mac (no offense, really). Personally I don't use the DVX as a preview bridge or even for capture. I just use a cheap $300 miniDV Sony cam for both purposes. Works fine for both, doesn't put time on my DVX heads and also protects me from possibly killing the FireWire port on my DVX. But I don't think there's really any problem with having it powered on for a long time like that.

A perfect inexpensive solution for monitoring is something like a Pyro A/V Link. It offers composite, Y-C (S-Video) and Y-Pb-Pr (component) input and outputs.

Does it work for vegas? Is this an accurate way of doing cc as it would be by passing through the dvx via firewire?

I wrote another thread on this but thought you may have the answer.

I am not a Vegas user, but the NLE is not a factor. It gets connected to your NLE via 1394 (Fire wire) just like a camera, but is a higher performance solution as it offers a much better analog path to the monitor.

Khmuse,
Thanks! That's what I wanted to hear. This way I can let my dvx relax while I spent hours monitoring my work.
