Shooting 2:35:1 aspect ratio on HVX

Does anyone know how shooting at the 2:35:1 aspect ratio be achieved? Is there an adapter that lets it shoot this ratio? Or is the only option to crop it and lose quality?

I could be wrong but I remember reading somewhere that Lucas and Rodriguez both cropped their films (star wars and once upon a time in mexico) in order to get it to 2:35:1... if someone knows the correct answer...

Thanks guys, looking forward to hearing back.

Someone posted a while ago that he used the Panasonic anamorphic adapter from his DVX on the HVX, and got that extremely wide aspect. The real question is how you can use it once you shoot it. You'd have to output for the web or on film, or seriously downsize and letterbox if you want to put this on a disk.

Well output onto film ideally... basically I was hoping to see if it was worth it to be able to frame in the 2:35:1 aspect ratio...

On the anamorphic adapter, there's a problems. As Barry pointed out, the anamorphic lens adapter for the DVX is an SD lens, and you're shooting HD with the HVX. The last thing you want is to loose resolution. His advice to me was to shoot 1080 and crop it in post. This is how it's done with the bigger productions that shoot 2.35:1 (which I LOVE, btw!).

You're gonna lose resolution with an adapter too. The chips are 16x9 so any attempt to squeeze a wider image onto them is going to mean a lose of resolution. It makes much more sense to crop in post and give yourself more options then to try to limit the resolution in camera with an adapter.
