worst nightmare... brand new DVX100B

The price of the camera makes it attempted Grand Theft -- that's a felony, not to mention the assault and robbery attempt. If you are asked to appear in court, DO SO and don't let the bum get away with it.

I'm glad you're OK and still have the camera.

Glad it all worked out well. You're a good storyteller.
(After the first two paragraphs I was expecting a "I heard a strange clunk noise when I picked up my camera")

Congratulations on your victory, Rubix. :nads:

And congratulations, you've got even worse luck then I have.

If you had been filming, you might've won something from DVXuser, but then again, with the luck of the Black Irish on your side, of course you weren't filming.

I live in a crummy area too (not too far from you, actually - it used to be nice) and am seriously considering packing heat when I shoot in less than desirable locales. Plus, it'll intimidate the actors. Ever hear the stories about Herzog with Kinski? :kali:

Seriously, as a fellow filmmaker, I'm glad you and your axe are unharmed.

Arent bums great. Glad you got to give him the beating he deserved!

We were shooting these two crazy drunk bums one time and it almost turned ugly. I kept the camera rolling and was about to smack the crap outta the guy when he started getting up in our faces. But he wanted money for his "time" we gave him a buck and he luckily took it and left :D

the CHARLES"DVX"BRONSON here folks :D you should have taped the beating..send it to felony fights! or that bum fighs one
heh

Thanks. I didn't even notice the cop until the guy was already subdued. He was pulling up (didn't even put his cherries on). He had me hang around and answer some questions. He told me they'd be calling me. Nothing yet, but we'll see. They towed the truck.

I just wanted to chime in and compliment your extraordinary story telling skill, I was absolutely hook into your short story, you seem to have a huge virtue, STORY TELLING! You would make a great director!

Sounds like a good story for a horrorfest movie.. it's a real shame that some people steal.. next time you are shooting in a sketchy place bring along a 1:1 replica of Chuck Norris..

Ummm... why has no one suggested getting insurance on ALL your gear?? You can insure 20 grand worth of gear for some measily $50-$200 a YEAR, depending on who you go through, and if you have any other insurance already. (if you have home owners insurance, most companies will let you add on top of that to cover your gear at next to nothing).

Good story, though.

He is right. I put a lot of things under my parents home owners insurance. My camera and gear all included.

Three years ago I had a fancy and expensive bike that got stolen, but because I had it under insurance I got more then a fair amount of money back. Then I smiled.

end of story.

who says he isn't a great director already?

we know he is a great story teller, but give the man some credit.

Some people dream of a time like this when they get to go to town on a thief. Lucky the cop was there and the guy got taken in. Glad to hear you're ok!! Use it as inspiration for your next movie :nads:

Thanks a lot for the kind words. Make me a promise, that you'll watch my first DVX movie (out in 2 months or so). You too arhartman :).

@ Lake Films - this 503 head I just got would definitely do some serious damage ( and possibly even give me great fluid motion to film the aftermath).

I'm going to look into the insurance thing. My parents live out of state, so I'm not sure how that would work.

All of this support is really terrific. I was a bit hesitant about posting this story. I love this board.
