What do you think of David Lehre

I was just wondering what some of you guys think of David Lehre. He is the kid who made the Myspace movie and now he has all kinds of stuff going on because of it. You can see his work at www.davidlehre.com. Some of his things are really very funny but I cant believe the kind of success and attention he is getting just from that Myspace movie ( I guess im just a little jealous). But seriously what do you think sets him apart from the thousands of young kids trying to get a start in this business with tons of talent who just cant catch a break.

Absolutly nothing, and this is the good and bad of Hollywood. I have seen his work, and honestly can't see what others see in this stuff, but that's my opinion. Obviously some bigwig thinks he can make some money off this kid.

Yeah I hear you. I mean some of its definitly funny but I cant believe how much hes blowing up. His website shows how he is going to LA all the time and working on all kinds of stuff. Hes living the dream, so good for him. Hopefully we can get there some day.


By the way I looked at some of your work Scharky and its very good. What equipment do you use. Is that an adapter or stock lens. That Bill Clinton pissing is hilarious.
 
I had the pleasure of talking with him online and lets just say he is not that nice. He is completly wraped around himself and has a HUGE ego! He has only been doing this for around 6 years now(as have i) and really, i don't see much talent in him at all.

BUT THATS JUST ME ;) .
 
I read an article about him in "Rolling Stone" a couple months back, and then went and checked out his website. Yeah... he sucks.

But as Sharky said, some bigwig thinks he can make some money off this kid.

Pathetic, really.

I'd rather go through my entire life making films of quality and never get any recognition, than make it the way he did. Just my opinion.
 
Thanks Tony. Not to get off topic, but most of my work on the site is shot with the DVX100a with and without the Letus 35, just depends on the project.
 
Nice. I just barely could afford buying my dvx100a so I dont think there is a 35 in my near future but it really looks great.

Actually the way he made it is the way many have. They make a short, get some "bigwig" to see it and love it and it's money in the bank. He didn't go to sundance, he went to youtube. This is what we all wanted right? The "democraization" (hope I spelled that right) of the industry, right? Well here it is. Six million kids loved his worked and to a big studio exec if they can get $10 from each of those six million kids for some low budget David Lehre film then that's money in the bank. I'm sure there's some kind of production in the works right now.

I think he is an over zelous prick who bases his entire filmspan on that one D Grade film. A couple people I know myspace message him and he cocky and pretentious.
 
I agree with John. I might not like the music and all the kids stuff,,,but man he is doing it and there are a lot of kids out there who must want that stuff.

So what if he is a prick.

I'm sorry, but I can't have ANY respect for someone who will do literally ANYTHING to make a buck, and get some recognition.

Hatin' is what happens when those who don't/can't do mean those who can/will do. I have him as a friend on myspace but I've honestly never talked to the guy but I notice he's real good at looking cool. Beyond that he's kind of a goofball. But I guess so am I and probably most of us once we get from behind the camera. Frankly I'm too busy trying to get where he is to hate on him....

...honestly, let's be real, I'm trying to get beyond where he is.

something tells me he has friends in high places, but on the other hand, he's an inspiration. Aspiring film makers now know that the little guy can make it big.
 
He may be a d*ck, but he's making it happen. Sometimes you gotta look out for number one, and he's using new media to do it. Yahoo, Google, Youtube, Myspace...who cares if his "D-Grade" film did well and got him attention? I think most of us would love that attention.

Am I wrong?
 
Im sorry but you guys are honestly saying Hey who cares if he is a dick he is famous! The question was what do YOU think of David not what YOU think about other peoples response. I dont like him if you do then go work with him and see how much he knows and fun he is to work with, but I dont and just have fame dosnt cut it for me.
 
I just like the fact that everyone was "hatin" on him, then Mr. John Hudson himself come's on and say's otherwise, and now all of the sudden everyone respect's him for "maikin it happen".

C'mon people...
