Hi im planning to start a production studio using the DVX100 and Vegas to edit. Id like to have a seperate screening room where we can show clients the completed videos or demos etc. Which is a better format to give the most cinematic and artifact free dvd projections ? LCD or DLP projectors ? I know this may sound off topic from this forums usual but i thought you guys being in the video production industry would be able to help me out more. Both ways im going for XGA with 2000 lumens or more and 2000:1 contrast ratio. But which technolgy should i opt for for a movie theatre like experience. LCD or DLP ? Thanks guys. Id appreciate your help.

check out projectorpeople.com and projectorreviews.com I bought a Sanyo-PLV-Z4 and I love it. Native 16x9 720p HD LCD with a 7000:1 contrast ratio (though really 3000:1 if you turn off their auto iris thing). I project on a grey screen with a 1.1 gain.

The screen door effect is minimal, the picture is great, the contrast is great, and an LCD projector can be positioned with more versatility than a DLP projector. this particular model has manual zoom and x and y axis adjustability, and I get over a 119" 16x9 display from about 12 feet away, ceiling mounted.

The downside is it is only 1200 lumens. However, you will find this to be the big trade off. Lumes - quality - good price. You can have two of the three, but not all three.

I find that with about 40 footcandels of light, the image is still watchable comfortably. But it is definetly best with no light... looks AMAZING. So we simply got some dark curtains and when we feel like we need the ultimate viewing experience, we block out the windows. Also, I use an HDMI connection and have an HD Direct TV receiver. HD looks far better than DVD, as it should.

If you're going for DLP there are plenty of good options. I went against it because they are harder to position, have to be further away and at very specific heights to get the right size picture, and also, there is something called the rainbow effect that I suffer from, that is, I can see ghosting colors on fast shots on many popular DLP models.

I'de do some research. But I'll tell you this, in this day and age you can have a pretty amazing screening room for under 3000.00. I don't know why people get plasmas when Projection technology is so amazing and affordable right now.

thats why people chose plasma and what not, but my personal preference is LCD rear projection. DLP is great as well now though, with 56 inch 1080p screens going for around 1500 now adays. :P

Great projector! B&H has a rebate going on right now for that one which includes a screen and a spare bulb. It is very tempting...

Hi Zoostory,

What if i need a projector which i can also put up at different clients places if need be. So which means portability. I guess a fatsre color wheel can get rid of the rainbow effect. But which of these 2 technologies in your experience gives a more cinematic finish ? DLP or LCD ? But wherever i use them will be almost near pitch dark. Im looking at the optoma. 2300 lumens, 2000:1 contrast ratio. Max image output 306 inches. But my budget is only about 1500 Usd, but the upside is that ill only be using it in very dark theatrical environments. What do you suggest. Thanks...
