Scariest moment in my entire life....litterally.

My son hit his head on the fireplace, still has a bump to this day. You really
would rather that it be you than them. Good to hear he's okay.

Trust me, this is only the first of many such scares. I've got a 3 yr old and 18 month old. Poison control has gotten to the point where they just call me and ask how my kids are. The first time I called em, the little one had taken it upon himself to get into the cat box thanks to an open gate to the basement. Why would a child eat dirty cat poop? Anyway- he was constipated for a few days as that stuff clumps up. The second time I turned my back for two seconds to get him some clothes from the dresser and heard a gurgling sound followed by intense crying from the bathroom. Imagine my horror when I ran in there to see white foam coming from his mouth. Drano?!! Comet??!! OMG OMG WTF!!! Try Mr. Bubble. The little guy took a shot of Mr. Bubble was all... no biggie just another entry it up in the "holy christ don't take your eyes off em (when does social services show up)" log. Oh then there was the time my neighbor up the street brought both my boys home... apparently the older one let the little one out the front door and they both just took off. They were gone for all of 2 minutes, but never the less, they were outside unattended, unaccounted for.. heading east and the 3 yr old wasn't even wearing pants. I'll just stop now.

two things.
1) Sounds like you really are a good pops.
2) I too have the name Austin. And it's a good one.

but I am sorry you had to go through such an experience, and I am glad nothing bad had happened, but at least you reflected upon it.

this is by far one of the best, and not to mention well written Cafe threads I've seen started.

cheers.

that scared the hell out of me reading this. im glad he is fine. i have a 1 year old girl and i can imagine how you feel. im thankful we have not seen any accidents. Austin is a cool name btw!

hello everybody thank you for the kind words. Austin is beyond OK. It's like it never happened. He didn't even seem to notice that I was up all night trying to wind down. :)

Seems like there are a lot of loving parents on the board. It's amazing how, despite the differences of the world, that we all go through similar things without man exceptions. Certain things are just universal and that makes me feel a bit less lonely in my busy life.

Most of the experience sound almost comical now as I'm sure the "stair incident" will one day, but they're all as serious as death when they happen. I too am glad that Austin and everybody elses children are doing fine. And to think that a year and a half ago I had a take it or leave it attitude towards kids (not that I would ever want them to hurt). What a difference a year makes.

Thanks again everybody.

Normally, I don't respond to every note, but this is a special one for me and I want to show my appreciation.

ALEXA-Had this happen to a friend. the UPS driver killed her baby. very sad. She's only a shell of a person anymore. I went to great lengths to make sure that all of our cars have backup cameras and maybe one day every care will. Help at least a bit.

THARTLEY-Not funny situations, but strung together and in retrospect they might seem a bit comical. OK, not the ATM thing.

BLUESPIDER-I used to think that those things were cruel, but after seeing the wee-man's sprint-time for the 40-ft-dash, I might just change my mind. :)

RICHIE-The is the first time I've ever heard that "not normal" cry and I'll never forget it. I don't ever want to hear it again, but I'm sure I will.

OVERLAND- Scary to say the least. We have an auto pool cover and even the dog run, which has a dog door to the house is a fortress and I'm still paranoid about the water. This is Arizona, so it's always an issue. I'm going to get DILIGENCE printed on tshirts. :)

STEVE-I'm in mid-life right now, so does that mean by the time my second kid comes, I'm as good as dead?

ANHAR- The rascal is great and I'm so glad now that he is a rascal. :)

KRESTOPF- Love the club idea. Lot of good dad's (and moms) here. Let's all hope that all our kids make it to adult hood and that we make it to retirement trying to get them there.

HAIRY-I don't really know if I'm cut out for it either, but it's made me a better person in a very short period of time. Destroyed most of my selfish ways and after a bit of adjustment, I'm glad to see them go.

CHARLI-Those are some scary stories. We can talk again in a couple of years, because I'm sure I'll have some similar ones coming up.

AUSTIN-Good name for sure. Thanks. I'm trying to be a good dad.

KOVAROVA- Girls might be a bit less likely to get hurt, but then again I wouldn't count on it. I'm find out now that accidents are OK. Death, not OK. :) Austin would make a cute girls name as well.

wow... no response? hehe... it's ok. I am glad your little guy is ok :) I was just so happy to see the true care you have for your child... awesome.

... I am absolutely amazed that anybody lives to adulthood.

My friends who are parents all say this!

Don't know about everyone else who's my age, but I was loose on the streets of OC as a boy (1970s) and somehow made it. I remember riding down the SA River trail to the smokestacks at Huntington Beach when I was in third and forth grade - from Fountain Valley.

Don't know if parents still allow their kidnergarten-age kids wander around the neighborhood like mine did, but maybe they were watching more closely than any of us might suspect.

C'mon now. I quoted you in my first response last night and I gave you credit. :) That was under the blanket "thank you" email that I was sending out last night before I went to bed.

Today's was a response to all the new posts this morning. Not everybody's good at...what's that term....Bricemanning? :) Thanks again Brandon. :)

And thanks again everybody.

It was the same for me. Running around barefoot in the woods growing up a spell in Missouri. :)

My poor kids probably won't even be allowed in the yard by themselves. :)

Whoa

Dude; I totally relate.

Nothing is more important than my son. (He is 6 now) but nothign is scarier than their well being.

Whew ....

Whew, is right John.

Man, it is nice to see so many dad's and guys talking about how they feel about children. In society we seem to expect women to be the ones that care more, but I'm seeing a lot of dad's that love their kids beyond words.

Good stuff.

Thanks again, Brandon. :) :)

i never knew i had feelings and instincts like that before i became a father. sure i was protective about my loved ones but when it comes to your own child, wow.. the feeling is 10x greater.

To put a different spin on the whole "taking care of children thing" the other night I was taking my daughter inside from the car. It was night and very dark which scares her a little and she put her arms around my neck and said "Daddy, you're here. Nothing can get me." :crybaby:

You just want to keep them safe always.

A buddy of mine has already said he'll teach me how to handle a handgun before she's dating age. :kali:

Wow, scary story! I'm a new dad and I can feel for you completely. I'm glad your boy's ok!

On a side note, though, Movie Master DID give you fair warning that the gates of terror would be opening.

...and we will all NO fear.

thanks for the well wishes and laugh and good luck with your new baby.

Hey Kovarova, I know what you mean. I feel almost super human when dealing with protecting my child.

Krestofre, no need to learn to handle a handgun...shotguns are easy. :)
