How many Andromeda DVX's?

I didn't know there was an andromeda forum... The DVX vs Andromeda isn't all that fair though... a lot of difference in price and obvious compression.

I am just going on educated guesses, but I would say the andromeda dvx would have an advantage with very low light situations since the HVX is a light piggie. I would say the Andromeda would be a negative because it is still grabbing from a 4x3 chip, and the HVX has native widescreen chips. Hvx also has the ability to grab 60fps which I do not think the andromeda can do, (correct me if I am wrong).

As far as color, they are comparable and I am not sure who would win that battle. You are saying the Andromeda is 4:4:4? The HVX is what? 4:2:2? I am not sure.... someone might want to jump on that.

The HVX also does not have to be tethered to get nice HD resolution like the andromeda does. p2 offers run and gun possibilities.

I think when you look at the big picture the HVX is not tethered, has variable framerates/ shooting modes, widescreen CCD's, and ease of use.

The andromeda takes all of the DVX's strengths and boosts to a new level. But becomes tethered.

I would go HVX, but hey I already did. :)

Those are the biggest HVX selling points its true.

I'm looking at the Andromeda mostly because I can't afford an HVX right now nor the cost of adopting P2.

Whereas for just 2500 bucks i can get a stellar picture with my DVX and use equipment i already own for aquisition.

The backpack solution would be a good one for running and gunning on a leash.

I'm merely looking at this as something to get more and better quality product out of my DVX while continuing to save towards a new top notch professional level system....like the RED.

I see your points. HVX is out of my league, at the moment. Which is why I'm waiting for the XH-A1. I think having to go tethered all the time would be too much for myself. Then again, you never know until you actually work under the circumstances.

Well there is a personal reason in your choice between HVX and Andromeda. I was just thinking of stuff of the top of my head for those who wanted to see a comparison in cams.

EDIT: And Machinist, keep saving for that red! I cant even think of buying one. I just hope if red is released the rental prices will be in ratio to the camera. Meaning a camera that is just as good as the other HD cameras but is much less expensive to buy will be much less expensive to rent.

Hey Brody, how does the laptop tethered andromeda work? I figured that the laptop would have to be accessible to record. Can you just tether it in a backpack and have it record with camera controls?..... If that is possible I am more impressed with andromeda.

Oops, I was reading your quote from Machinist... sorry. I'll tell him that . :)

As i understand it with the Sculptor HD software you set up exactly the image you wish to be captured and then just start capturing. Both to the laptop and miniDV at the same time. I haven't done this myself of course but thats what the reel-stream site leads me to believe.

And i certainly will keep saving. That's one heck of an investment, the red.
