What did I do to my DVA, how can I fix it?

Hi,

So I did something really dumb and thought I'd ask if there's a solution I can get advice on. I was capturing some tapes and at the end of one of them managed to knock do something really stupid. I reached for something, hadn't noticed that my leg had snagged the firewire cable, and managed to pull my DVX off my table top and onto my subwoofer on the floor. It fell prob about 1m in total and landed top down, aka on the plastic lens cover, which is lame.

It still seems to work fine, mechanically, however whenever I playback a tape it now has, on the right hand side of the image, jumpy blurry video, I don't know if I'd call them artifacts, it's like a strip of distorted mess on the right hand side of the tape.

I've tried it with a couple tapes and it's there, and it's not just a LCD thing, they are there when I capture. I've put a tape in an old, small, family camera we had lying around and they capture without these strips on the right hand side.

My first questions then is 1) Any idea what I did to my DVX100A [Pal], 2) What can I do to fix it, in the short term and long term? and lastly 3) If I capture tapes from this older camera in the meantime, are they going to be identical to if I had've done them on my DVX, being that both methods capture by firewire? [aka will there be the same quality etc].

Cheers!

Edit - That should read DVX. This really isn't a good week for me and breaking things, being as I crashed my car a few days ago too heh.

Sounds like the head might be out of alignment, but that'a not much more than a guess. As for capturing to your computer, the cheaper camera will give you the same results, and in fact that's what you should normally do to save wear on the heads in you DVX.

Want to hear what happened to me?

DVX was in backpack (procam backpack) forgot to place velcro straps, swung backpack over shoulder and DVX cam flying out and landed on hard ground.
Works fine.
Sturdy toy!

The heads out of alignment eh? Hmm, is there a way for me to fix that or do you reckon I gotta pay, as I hate having to pay if I can do it myself heh.

I'm pretty sure you'd have to have that done by a pro. I don't know about you, but I wouldn't have the first clue how to go about it.

No I have no clue, I was hoping it would be something simple like kick it a little, shake it a little, or at worst stick a screwdriver in the tape drive and shove it around a little.
