CineForm

Great thanks David.

So what about my first question... "So then would I be safe to assume that when I export my project using the CINEFORM HD CODEC out to DVD that the aspect ratio will be correct @ 16:9-even though the exported project (CINEFORM AVI) "looks" 4:3?"

Thanks again.

David- I've checked on your website and not found what I am looking for . . . do you have a simple comparison chart the shows what features Aspect, Connect, and Prospect HD have?

I confuse easily so I am looking for a side by side comparison.

Thank you sir!

We are planning a fix.

This is good news because some lower end authoring software (Adobe Encore 1.5) doesn't give you the option to interpret as 16x9, it relies on the aspect ratio flag embedded in the AVI.

Adding that flag seems easy enough, and yet I have a hard time finding software than can alter/add that flag for videos that don't display properly in WMP.

I will likely be submitting a ticket shortly about this but I thought I'd give it a try here. Feel free to ignore.

A few video applications that I run will display Cineform AVIs in a separate pop-up window (titled Active Movie) instead of the main "viewer." So far I've seen this happen in After Effects and also in our presentation software, MediaShout 2.5.

The little bit of info I've found thus far reveal this may be a Direct X issue or maybe a nVdia driver issue.

Any thoughts?

Does you software use DirectShow or Video for Windows codecs? CineForm supports both, but don't open any windows, that would a function of the playback tool. How do you get this to happen within AE -- as I have that so I can test for myself?

Hello David,

I'm still considering using either Aspect or (most likely) Prospect - any word on the audio track to LTC timecode conversion?

I've downloaded the demo for Aspect and it says that it requires the P2 viewer. However, when I try to install the viewer it flashes a screen that, from what I can tell, doesn't like Windows XP-64. Am I missing something here?

I am unable to make my Magic Bullet effects work in PP2 with ASPECT HD. Is that just how it is or is it possible I am overlooking something (or perhaps need to re-install the MB again).

Any help appreciated -- thanks!

We need a working DirectShow DVCPRO-HD decoder, like the one that comes with the P2 Viewer. Unfortunately the P2 Viewer is not XP-64 compatable. If you install the P2 Viewer on a 32-bit system you might be to copy the required components to you 64-bit system and register (regsvr32.exe) all the DLL and AX files (I have no idea about any licensing issues with doing this.) That might allow you to use your XP-64 system.

As for reading LTC tracks, not yet. It is still a wish list feature, although a good one.

Magic Bullet is a render and scrubbing only effect under Aspect HD, has it hasn't been written to us the the real-time playback engine of Aspect. You should be use all the feature of MB, but no accelerated preview.

Please can you tell me what do I have to copy and where? I'm Windows 64 bit user and can not use p2 viewer, have to use win 200 and it's not working well!!! thanks!

I haven't got Win-x64 fully worked it out yet, but the DVCPRO-HD decoder can be registered just like I said, required components are all the *.ax files, PCodecHD.DLL and PCodec50.dll. Graphs can be built manually to play (and convert) files, unfortunately the automatic MXF playback doesn't work (i.e. Media Player, even with help, will not work.) I was able to make a file from HDRack convert without issue -- so the DVCPRO-HD decoder is working for that. We don't support any of this I was just curious if x64 could be made to work. The main problem with the x64 is driver support for P2 media, how are you planning to bring data in?

Hello David,

I'd have the files on an external hard drive connected to the system via USB2. From there I'd have the computer convert the incoming files and save them to an internal RAID 5.

I have another question, is Prospect with a Xena card any faster than Aspect with a 7900GT when it comes to 720p? Or is it simply an 8 vs. 10 bit quality difference?

Prospect HD isn't about more speed, its focus is more quality and additional flexibility. However, the AJA HDSDI integration is much better than using generic video cards, the system is a little snapper, and there are no color space issues as there are with NVidia overlay gfx cards. If you have the budget, Prospect HD with HDSDI/Component I/O is the way to go.

Great support, and from what I'm seeing in the trial great product too.

David, I'm sure this has been answered, but I started getting dizzy 7 pages in - WMP is displaying my converted 16:9 files in 4:3...am I doing something wrong?

Thanks

StMad,

That a simple one. Aspect HD wasn't really aware of DVCPRO-HD's 960x720 format, it assumes (only for MediaPlayer) that 720p is a square pixel format (which it is for all sources except the HVX200.) So this can be solved by up scale to the stand 1280x720 format -- there is no good reason NOT to do this -- basically all you exports format are 1280 anyway, so you might as well do your post in square pixel (easier and higher quality.) The resizing is an option within the "Prefs" of HDLink. Note: Editing will be faster as we don't have to resize 960 to 1280 on the fly -- Aspect HD does this as part of its RT engine. All the said, we have a new free upgrade to Aspect HD in the works that has many enhancements and fixes, 16x9 playback of 960x720 material might be one of them.

What to scale to?

What to scale to?

David Newman said:
We should definitely allow of such a batch conversion to work flawlessly, even with the scaler on, particularly as scaling everything to 1280x720 I think is a valuable workflow for this camera. The 1280x1080 modes don't resolve that much more vertical than the 720p, yet they do have the extra horizontal punch that makes them worth while. Also the 1080 modes double the effective bit-rate per frame, again giving a pristine 1280x720 scaled master.
Hi David -

You stated above (a while back) there is a 1280x1080 mode; yet I don't see that on your website for either Aspect HD or Prospect HD. Am I missing something?

And if I shoot (with the HVX200) in one of the 1080 modes (60i/30p/24p), what conversion mode would you suggest to utilize to obtain the highest quality (using Aspect HD)?
