Ben Harper "Morning Yearning" music video

Dude, something a little big in Rez. Too small... try 500x281

Shot well. But I dont like the video. If I saw on the Tv I would not Tivo it. With that slow of a song, I felt as if it would have been more appripriate to story it. Just me. I could not watch more than 20 seconds. That is the thing about art. The band and the director is there to make THEIR vision. A producer, the vision to me would be make others like it. I would have had him walking through a down town, with the words of the songs being sung by him, but everything around him acted out the lyrics. I dont know just thoughing that out.

I loved the lighting, and smoke. What exactly did you rent from Indie Rentals. What was the budget? What were your settings? How many days, and days per hour did you shoot. Give us some work flow.

But who are these "others"?

I think that one of the biggest mistakes you can make when it comes to the direction of any creative/artistic endeavor, is to try and assume what "others" are going to like in the hope of finding a bigger audience. Often, all you end up doing is pleasing nobody, including yourself. Producers are trying to do this all the time with their countless test screenings and audience/marketing feedback, which starts even before the ink has dried on the script. Most of the time what we end up with is a watered down version of the original idea that is "OK" to a larger portion of the public - not brilliant to anyone, not offensive to anyone - smack in the middle of average/mediocre.

PS: I'm not having a go at you SurJones (respect), it's just the concept of the mass appeal/art equation doesn't sit well with me.

"Other" are your mass audience......You are agree with me in your post, Art is the purpose for the director and musicians, but producers need to sell it just a fact of realty. Which yes it waters it down, like you said, (Not in all cases) but the middle of the road, is to make it enjoyable for the masses. Yes there might not be much art is in that., but masses sells records.
some might consider selling to the masses an art in itself.

In this case, I think for this guys video, I would have directed a more story lines video. but AGAIN, I love what was done but as a separate entity. The art of it is kewl. Just wont get much TV time.
