Authorized Dealers - Where to buy

Panasonic 100B from NewEgg

Panasonic 100B from NewEgg

The key to buying form NewEgg is to call Panasonic's rebate number as soon as soon as you get your Panasonic 100B and verify the serial number. My first !00B camera from Newegg did NOT have a valid serial number; Newegg replaced it and my new camera did have a valid serial number. Crazy - huh? Newegg told me they could not validate the serial number of the camera that would be shipped, but that if it was not "authorized" that I could return it.

I suspect the open stock Panasonic 100B camera on NewEgg's website is my returned "invalid serial number" camera!

Without going into the last 2 weeks of searching for a legitimate authorized dealer offering the 100B at a competitive price, talking to every Vinny in Ny City, the search engines bring me to this site. Light at the end of the tunnel ! Thanks to this thread, after I sift through all the listed authorized dealers who apparently answer the phone with their poker face, a dealer cap and a deck of cards ready to play games with the "Oh, that's only available in a package...shipment won't be in on a separate unit until thursday" only to call back, talk to another salesman at the same shop who says they're back ordered for 3 weeks....But hey, I just happen to have one with all the bells and whistles in a "package" for an additional $400 yaddie-yadda on to a different company, same story I call EVS and talk to a gentleman named Johnny. He took the order, no deviation from what was advertised, no games, a good conversation with no hassles and I hang up with a sigh of relief. Order is scheduled to be delivered this week. Stay tuned for part-2 to this story.

Well, 2 days later and my DVX100B is in my hands.
I must say I'm absolutely satisfied with my experience with EVS......Now to claim my rebate. Hope that goes as smooth :)

Glad your DVX got to you as quickly as promised. Johnny Rojas is not only a very knowledgeable salesman, but he's quite a good DVX filmmaker himself. Never hesistate to give him or anyone else at EVS a call if you have any questions on your equipment or advice on making your video. Besides, Johnny's last name is actually pronounced "roh-haus"... and that's pretty darn cool!

does anybody know exactly what the dvxuser discount is at abel cine?

or how i would go about using the discount?

thanks.

Call 'em up, talk to Jerrod, he's the guy I talked to. You just tell him to quote the price and he'll e-mail you a PDF document with the discount. It's like $100 bucks off I think.

After meticulous research, a month of planning, painstaking soul-searching, and selling one of my kidneys, I finally bit the bullet and bought my gear from EVS Online today.

I will simply echo the comments from many, many users on this board when I say that it was probably the best sales experience I've had in a while. Except maybe for that hot girl at the Starbucks counter, but that's for another thread in a stranger, darker, more disturbing forum than this.

As luck would have it, when I called I got none other than Tommy Mack himself. Not only did he convince me to NOT spend $700 on an anamorphic adapter, but he was friendly, funny, and fast. The 3 F's I guess.

So thank you to Tommy, EVS Online, and of course, all you wonderful people on these boards that have been keeping me from doing any 'real' work. If I get fired for reading these forums at work too much, I'm crashing on YOUR sofa.

Thanks Tommy! I got all the gear today, I was thrilled. Needless to say, 'real' work stopped for the rest of the afternoon :)

Are there any authorized (or at least reputable) dealers of preowned cameras? An eBay store called "ElectronixMax" does that. A forum search revealed that a couple people have had successful deals with them, but I'd like to get some more advice on the subject.

Thanks for mentioning, I forgot to check their used equipment. B&H has a DVX100A and B for sale used, but I'm looking for a used HVX. They're a bit scarce.

Hi All:

I have been in contact with NEWEGG who are now proclaiming authorized dealer status. They have the 100b on sale at less than 2900 after rebate.

They will provide assurance that the rebate will be honored.

New Egg is not an authorized dealer. They may purchase US product from a US distributor, but I have not been able to verify all of their serial numbers as US serial numbers. It has been about 50/50.

So, buyer beware.

I ordered from newegg about two months ago. I got my book and DVD a long time ago and just got my rebate check today. Of the unauthorized dealers, I think newegg is the safest. I did what seemed like endless research online before ordering, to the point where I felt like I knew less the more I read. So I just went for it. If that 50/50 estimate is accurate, then I feel pretty lucky. When I first got it and opened up the box, I felt a sinking feeling as I read (french) and nothing else on the instruction booklet. That was before I flipped it over to the english side. I guess it's debatable weather saving a couple hundred bucks is worth the worry, as the length of this thread illustrates.

Newegg eh? Never even crossed my mind. I almost bought from CCI that is until I was looking and noticed that there is no list of what is included with the camera. Scamolicious. Peace easy

This thread just got interesting...

Now forget the DVX for just a sec (the horror), I wanna hear about this "transaction."

For what it may be worth, i can recommend Willoughbys (Willoughbys.com). They are an authorized Panasonic dealer and very much service oriented.

I went to them only after experiencing incredible frustration with AbelCine NY. Couldnt talk to a human being, couldnt get my phone calls returned. I could talk to a receptionist and explain that i wasnt getting anywhere or to anyone, but each time she would route me to a different mail box. Left 3 messages with 2 different people in the pro-video dept; basically saying "I'm ready to buy, please sell me a camera" never got a single response. Maybe they are too busy for average little guy consumers--dont know. Regardless, I will never waste my time with them again.

At Willoughbys, i got a human on the phone right away, they had it in stock and the quoted price was actually a little bit lower than their web price which was $200 less than Abel!. After rebate, my 100B cost me $2779 and no charge for shipping. The only caveat is their store policy on a bank check, they will hold it 10 days as if it is a personal check. Aside from that little bump in the road, they were great. They will also match or beat prices on stuff like spare batteries, etc. They will also exchange stuff, no hassles.

my .02,
Gary
