You would more likely use a graduated ND to balance sky and foreground values for video.

You can also just use a polarizer to darken your sky.

David, do you think you can get those black Anselm Adams like skies with a pole filter? Those really tar black skies with white cotton clouds? I never tried it, so I would like to know it for sure.

someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think a polarizer filter will give you the effect as well as a red/orange filter or graduated ND filter.

No they won't give the same affect but if ou just want to try to darken your skies a polarizer is a good thing.

As for trying to achieve a black sky/ white cloud affect, I'm not sure how well that would work.
