Tangent: 5 minute short

does anybody else notice what i said? its not possible for that truck driver to have been there if the 5 dollor bill was in the drugdealers pocket in the alley, thats the biggest flaw i saw, but i still like it alot

Mystico: We wanted the ending to be left open for interpretation. Also, the kid spits blood when he falls because he had just gotten the sh*t kicked out of him by 3 guys.

Mattyg: The titles were done in AE. One of the other guys on the team did them, so I really couldn't tell you specifics on how they were made.

Malcom: Glad to see you're enjoying your new camera. Now let's see something you've made with it.

LloydeC: The 2 guys in the alley shot aren't actors by any means. Since we didn't try and find "actors," we tried to minimize dialogue scenes. But yeah, their conversation does sound like a cheesy educational video. And we also really liked the money in puddle crane shot. Since we built the crane ourselves, we drooled over that shot for a while .

Chris: I think I responded to that question earlier on in the thread. But yeah, obviously the $5 could not have already gotten to the drunk driver directly after it was handed off in the drug deal.

Diang: We ultimately decided that a happy ending would be fitting. We were given 7 days to make it, from scratch to finish.

Bezakor: Thanks a lot for the comments on the shots and editing. We dubbed the dialogue in with different people's voices, because the original actors weren't around at the time. And their voices sound tinny as well I think. I like all the sound effects. Also, we didn't think too much about dressing the 2 kids differently in the alley scene. Maybe the 3rd crane shot in was a little overkill.

Bezakore: I'm interested in your overall cc comment. I used different cc/filters for each location. But are you saying it's a good idea to then take an overall cc/filter and place it over the entire film?

Thanks for all the helpful comments. It's great to hear people's input.

Gohanto: We mainly used workshop lights and "reflectors" that we bought at Home Depot. Although these got the job done, we did not have much control over the light like you would when using barn door lights. Fortunately, the street lights in the alley are rather bright and atmospheric -- this gave the scene a film noir look in my opinion.

I seriously want to praise this film, but I simply cannot because of how bad Requiem was ripped off. I can understand wanting to use similar shots or ideas, but come on.

The second he started using the drugs, I thought to myself, "They aren't seriously going to do this." I only get pissed because I bet 95% of the people who saw this had no idea about Requiem and thought that these guys came up with such a clever way of showing intoxication.

I don't mean to be a complete jerk. I respect the film and think you guys did great, but I can't stand seeing one of my favorite movies ripped off.

Korimickster,

I wasn't trying to pawn off that drug sequence as my own. It was just a little joke in my mind. I figured that most people have seen the movie and would spot it right away. If I enter it into more festivals, though, I will most likely change some of the shots so that it won't be an issue.

I thought the directing was terrific... and the concept cool. (loved Donnie Darko btw)

My main beef was the lighting on the interiors.

Nice work--the awards are well deserved.

I see what you mean, Mike. And again, I really didn't want to come across as a complete douche. I'd love to see some more of your stuff in the future.

Mike,

Ok so you took a little and gave some back. Liked the camera work in the intro. Looking to shoot some jib shots on a music video, and the lighting in the intro was awsome. Yes they were not highly paid actors, but you had the guts to try it out and do what everyone in the forum usually says at one point or another "how would I do that?" That to me is where the strength is in the piece.

Steve
