Hi all... I've been working on this project for several months, the shoot was back in June and now all the VFX are done so I though I'd share some of the production.
Every couple years RE/MAX puts together a new recruitment media package including an up-tempo themed video. For the last couple of years I've had the opportunity to contribute to these productions, and when producer BB Schmid described her exciting vision of skydivers forming the shape of the RE/MAX balloon I was excited to take part.
We had a top notch crew, headed by the director John Behring. John is an incredible DP as well, and his credit list is extensive; He's directed episodes of Charmed, Touched by an Angel, Dragnet, Surface, The 4400, and now is the Supervising Producer on Numbers, and is directing 4 episodes of that show this season including the premiere and final.
All footage was 720 24PN, and all the sky dives were using the Century .6 lens. I had to "un-distort" the footage before tracking and FX.
Our ski-diving photographer was Norman Kent, an awesome individual and talent. After testing with the HVX he bought his own and did extensive rigging to match it up with his helmet mount.
The bottom line is that with only eight divers and only four RE/MAX branded canopies, some CGI was needed to force multiply that out to 59 divers and 3 RE/MAX branded planes.
I want to share some pictures and movies with you all...
Before and after on some VFX shots... I did a total of 31 shots, here are some of the more interesting ones. (53megs) Please "save as" and not stream.

Norman's flight rig for the HVX. My HVX is next to it on the table. All told we had 4 HVX's on the shoot.
My P2 logging and backup station... all footage was backed up to a second hard-drive and immediately burned to a DVD.
When is an HVX not an HVX? When it's 1/5th the weight and price of the gear attached to it. Virtually all the Mini35 footage was un-usable... the ground glass wasn't spinning for most of the shots leaving the nasty screen grain. Bummer.
Car mounts are fun! David Quint helps set up the rig. John Behring is in the back seat. Our two talent were actually pro skydivers and did a fantastic job. The producer joked that all future casting would be done from the skydiver pool.
Norman Kent lands with the HVX on his head in 720p slow mo (17meg). The only chance I had to get out of the RV in time and get a camera on him... Please "save as" and not stream.
