Best DVD authoring program for Avid to work with?

Well, finally found a friend who said he would mind letting me use his retail copy of Avid with Sorensen to encode an MPEG2 (I love external Hard drives). I'm curious though what is the best DVD authoring program as far as power, ease of use, and compatability with Avid. My academic version came with Sonic DVDiT. In Sorensen however, it has Avid DVD presents. How do these compare as far as power, compatability, and ease to use? Anything else that is really good. In the past I've just used Adobe Encore DVD (since it was simple) but I'm tired of it always insisting on transcoding my Avid stuff immediatly.

Nothing wrong with Encore...

DVDiT I loathe. To me all it should be used for is DVD authoring for non-DVD authorers (ie people not invovled with post).

Adobe Encore I'm a big fan of. I think it was from 1.5 and up its been good as far as I'm concerned. 1.0 was a nightmare though. I think it has a good ease of use and well it plays well with Photoshop and After Effects allowing for some great results on a design level. I haven't scripted for it though, not sure how well it handles that. And its been a little while since I last used it (work has DVDSP) but I recall being able to turn off automatic transcoding of files. Perhaps I'm confused, but I could have sworn you could do that.

For absolute ease of use though, I'd transcode your project and get your DVD files (mpeg2 and whatever audio format you're going to use) and then haul it over to a Mac and use DVD Studio Pro. Version 3 I thought was great and 4 has only appeared to be even better. I find it quite easy to accomplish really anything and everything I want to with it. And it has nothing to do with being on a Mac, if they made this for the PC, I'd still likely call this my favorite choice.

Anyway, just my .02.

cheers.

If you're Mac, DVD Studio Pro hands down.

If you're PC DVD-Lab is by far the best bang for your buck. In fact it's an extraordinary bang for your buck.

Encore 1.5 won't burn a wide screen DVD no matter what I do (won't let me "interperet footage" if I let it transcode it and won't recognize or let me use "interpret footage" if I already transcode it as MPEG2 16x9 in Sorenson). I tried setting up a 16x9 timeline and got an error message. How is Avid DVD?

^^DVD Architect is my favorite. It came with my Sony Vegas bundle. But it can handle both widescreen and 4:3 video. User friendly. Powerful mapping system. And, easy to make menus.

i use tmpgenc dvd - it works well - very easy to use and has lots of canned menus and you can build your own
