Best way to combine HVX 720/24pN footage with SD mini-DV footage?

Got a job coming up. A promo video for a school. I only have one memory card and, since they aren't really paying me enough to justify getting a FS-100 or an 8 gig, and since it's going to be delivered onto an SD DVD, I'm going to shoot much of the promo strait to mini-DV tape. Some stuff however, I'd like to shoot 720 so I can make use of the variable frame rates and also the higher resolution for image stableization (they want shots from a plane). What's the best way to do all this? Is it possible to drop the 720p24pN footage onto onto an SD timeline with the other stuff. Also, will it make any difference if I shoot the mini-DV stuff 24p or 24pA for intercutting with 720p? Thanks.

Thanks Tommy. The problem is that while this tells me what I CAN do it doesn't really tell me HOW to do it. The tape stuff, even though it's 24p, will still be encoded to a 29.976 signal. Where as the 720pN stuff is going to be a pure 23.976 signal. I know one can't mix different framerates. Should I create a 23.976 timeline and capture the tape stuff into that? If so, should I shoot 24p or 24pA? Also, would it make more sense to create a 720p project or a 480i project when mixing the formats?

I might create a separate 720PN/23.976fps project for that footage and then export a Quicktime Movie (or a Quicktime Reference) with the appropriate NTSC settings. After that, import that Quicktime Movie (Reference) into your 30i project to edit with the rest of the MiniDV material.

Thanks, that's my back up plan but it'll take a lot of space. Does anyone know if it would work to import the tape footage into the 720p 23.976 timeline and tell it to remove the pulldown? I can then export it all in SD.

Ok, I found my own way of doing it. Trying to capture the 480i stuff into the 720p project wouldn't work.

So, I created an NTSC 23.976 file, captured my 24p footage into that (looks like it removed the pull down automatically though I wish I knew where the toggle for that was). I then used the media tool to bring in the 720p footage. I had to tell the monitor to switch to 16x9 (won't do it automatically). One thing that considered me initally was that the 720p footage looked REALLY blurry in the timeline but it looked great (sharper than the tape) when i exported it as a 720x480i non-square pixel file.

It looks blurry unless the Video Quality is set to "Full Quality". There is a button on the timeline bottom toolbar that toggles through the choices: Full Quality (green/green), Draft Quality (yellow/green), and Best Performance (yellow/yellow). My system comes up with Draft Quality by default. Set it to green/green and the blurry stuff goes away.
