Yes I'm afraid I have another adaptor.

i use the indi focus with my 35mm lenses... its quite easy. i forgot how much i paid him but he sent me a gear that took the place of the foam wheel.. and then he sent me gears that go over the focus ring on the 35mm lens (i use nikon) the one that goes on the nikon uses three allan screws to tighten down to the lens.. and there ya go.. it works. right now im extending the piece from the focus wheel itself to where it attaches to the gear to turn the lens.. i want the focus wheel closer to the camera (further from the 35mm lens)... if u want pics of it then just shoot me a pm and ill send u pics

on a side note.. ive decided to build a new adapter (it looks like a micro35.. but its vibrating instead of spinning.. much easier to work with rather than build a vibrating unit inside a small tube

As of August 17th, 2006, what's the general consensus regarding ground glass?

Specifically, what is the best OVERALL general purpose GG for a static adapter right now? (Taking into consideration bokeh and light loss, etc.)

I realize there are many opinions, but what can I get RIGHT NOW so that I can start shooting with the best availability, least buyer's remorse and/or 'performance anxiety' ? Are there any clear winners yet?

EDIT: Please keep in mind I am focusing on Ed's design right now, and I'm using some decent glass (C.O. +7, Canon 500D +2), if that alters the playing field.

i just ordered this yesterday: http://shopping.netsuite.com/s.nl/c.472981/sc.2/category.3/.f

Comes with the ground glass used in the micro35. can't talk about the quality personally since i don't have it yet, but i figure ground glass used in the micro35 plus a book for $45 isn't a bad way to go.

hopefully i'll get it soon and have a static adapter built. then i can post some grabs.

Um...not to burst your bubble, but the micro35 is a spinning design. I don't think the GG is designed for use in a static adapter. I could be wrong though.

Yes, it can be. Using a standard Nikon or Canon zoom will cause the lens to "breathe" if you actually zoom in with it during filming, but if you're just using it at a single focal length it's ok.

mmmm. dang. didn't realize that. i'm fairly new to the whole adapter thing. looks like i won't be using it for a static adapter.

Four ED35 v1.5s for sale!! $149

Four ED35 v1.5s for sale!! $149

I have built 4 Ed35s (v1.5) and are selling them.

Yes selling them.... but only 4! I don't want to make this thread into a business venture- I still want people to try and build this themselves, because it fosters so many design ideas (ala Snodart and Marlene). And thats a good thing!

But since I don't have the time or resources to take on a 35mm adapter business, I figured why let these extra parts just gather dust. So here are the details...

* Ed35 v1.5 Depth of Field Adapter
* Tested for DVX100A or 100B (other 72mm front thread cams might work- but not tested and therefore not guaranteed.)
* Connects to DVX via 72mm thread mount.
* Uses Linhof micro grain ground glass paired with a Canon condenser lens as the focusing screen (equivalent to a Nikon D screen).
* Magnified by +10 Macro with +2 "booster".
* Uses Canon FD lenses (not included).
* Includes DVD with setup info, tips, tricks, scene file settings, and sample footage.
* Includes small magnet for 100A users.
* Works right out of the box. Just pop on your SLR lens, screw onto DVX then set your Zoom and Manual focus. Take less then 1 minute to set up.
* Static design: no batteries or noise.
* Sandblasted PVC construction with black epoxy hardcoat. Lightweight, scratch and dent resistant.
* Disassembles into 3 simple parts for easy maintenance, no tools required.
* Free shipping (to USA only- outside USA will pay for S/H).
* $149.00 (one per person)

Too see some footage from the Ed35, just check out my first clip:

Sorry the close up is blurry, my $150 digital camera sux big time. By the way, this is where the money will be going- to my new DSLR fund :)

Originally I wanted to sell them with the suggested lens (Canon 50mm f1.4 FD) for $200, but some people already have the lens or can get a better price elsewhere. So I figured since this lens averages about $30-40 on ebay, I would let the buyer get the lens themselves and still stay under $200.

So thats it. $149 and you have an Ed35 v1.5. I dont use paypal (I can hear it now "get out of the Dark ages Ed"- well, I dont use them because somebody ripped me off on ebay and they left me high and dry).

First come first serve- money order/cashiers check/or personal check (will wait to clear). AND you better be serous about buying it- too many jerks around here will say the want to buy it, and take forever to scrape the money together while serious buyers have to be told "its sold". If I don't get the payment within 5 days of me sending you a confirmation/payment instructions, I will offer it to the next person in line (and I will return your payment if I get it after that). So it would be in your best interest to send it priority and with tracking info. Sorry to sound like a jerk but you have to want it and have the money to pay for it. No BS.

Thats it, thanks for reading. :dankk2:

hey Ed:

what are you using for the ground screen? Also.....how do you make sure that when you screw your adapter on, the ground screen is horizontally aligned with the lense and not vertically aligned?

thanks

Ed is moving on....

He he, well yes and no... I will of course still check on this thread to see if anyone who is building it needs help with this design. It is my hope that it will inspire improvements and new design ideas for people to start thier own threads.

so comming soon...

www.dofadapters.com

It is a website for the Ed35 and all other 35mm DOF Diy stuff. Its a way for me to organize the "war and piece" that this thread has become :)

Re: the four Ed35 v1.5s- all four slots are now taken. Should anyone not come through, I will be offering it to the next people in line who PMd me.

Thanks,

Ed

In post #1133 it says what the GG is. The alignment is done by me, then the "sandwhich" is sealed to the PVC base with silicone to prevent dust. When the adapter is attached to the stock DVX lens (no UV) it will align up when it becomes snug.

Thank you Thank you Thank you!!!!

Thank you Thank you Thank you!!!!

Ed, thank you SO MUCH for creating a new site to detail all of the improvements in your original design. This thread has become monstrous, and trying to find applicable information is nearly impossible (and I have been trying to keep up LOL)

Thank you a million times over. You are an internet and video hero!!!!!
