Anyone familiar with the Steady-Orb

I was reading my most recent issue of, ahem, Videomaker. That was my first exposure to Steady-Orb. Their site has some sample footage posted:
http://www.steadyorb.com/
It is gimble based and includes both top and bottom mount. It sells for under $500 including hard case and can handle the DVX100 (in fact it is pictured in their ads).

Anyone familiar with it? It claims it distinguishes itself from other stabilizers because of a quick set-up and balancing.

That's interesting, i doubt the dual camera mode would be very useful. I have a Glidecam, and I don't understand how you would balance this thing. Also the angle of the handle on the gimbal looks like it's at an awkward angle to me.

Also I think the hands free unit is pretty much useless unless you are standing still. It bothers me a little that the site is so cheesy. But it could be the best thing since sliced bread.

Heh, another one. Cute.

I'd be interested to see the gimble a little better.

The demos where prety shakey, thoguh I have seen much worse too.

I would be *very* wary of using that "hands free" strap. - It looks like it's just a loop behind your neck, a good way to serious injury.

Far from the "Best hammer" though. And at almost $600 that's one mighty expensive hammer.

The "hands free" part is not available yet, but what they have pictured looks useless, unless you're standing still, as Ram S.O.S stated.

I'm not sure the idea is to have both cameras going at once - high and low - although the one picture gives that impression. I think the handle is set at an angle to demonstrate that you can adjust the shooting angle (I think that's the case, anyway).

Some nice close ups of the unit would help.

Also I think the "regular" price ($585) is bogus. It looks like you can get it from only one place and it sells for $425:

"Some nice close ups of the unit would help."......

Now why would you want to see that any closer?
If you want to throw away your money, I'll send you a stamped self addressed envelope.....

I love how the photos are just cut-and-paste. all the size relations are completely wrong (the DVX looks approx. the same size as the small crappy palmcorder) and you can actually see where the different pieces are slapped on top of each other in the photos. Not to mention that the woman is duplicated with different configurations she obviously isn't wearing.

Based on the crappy footage, the insalely crappy website and the fact that they don't even have proper product photographs I am wondering if this product even exists at all.

And what's with the name? Steady Orb? there's no orb. it's a stick with a thingymajig on top of it. an orb is another name for a round object, especially a disk or a sphere.

At only $585, it's a steal. Unfortunately, they're the ones doing the stealing!

I do like, however, the incredible squishable DVX shown here (fourth from the left)...

And don't forget about the Hand-E-Pod, shown here in its low-mode configuration:
