To buy a DVX100 or not to buy?

Is there any rational reason why one would want to buy a DVX100b if one already owns an HVX200?

I just sold my old DVX100 (the original one) and am now having separation anxiety issues... and now that the $350 rebate is about to end... arrrg... the temtation!

I don't know why you would want to buy a DVX when the HVX can shoot at exactly the same resolution and frame rates with the added luxury of having full 16:9 chips to take advantage of.

Having said that, I love my 100B. I think that the HVX is quite sexy, but my needs are more than adequately satisfied with SD.

Yes, I know... It's just that I loved my dvx100 camera... I miss it... Maybe I can buy one to rent out? (Okay, I think I am being ridiculous).

...or I could buy one for the making-off featurette, while the HVX serves as the a-camera on my next shoot.

i just purchased my dvx100bp and will pick it up in about 2 weeks. dvxuser.com RULES! as an experienced dvx100 users... what do i do to satisfy my IMPATIENCE!!!???

Grow a beard, then shave it. Grow a beard, then shave it. Should cure the impatience. :)

And no, why have a DVX100 when the HVX is actually a lot better?

lol the hvx is nicer than the dvx -- do not have separation anxiety, thethe, there is no reason for that. dieselfoot, i agree with you man, SD is fine for me... but if you have hd, why go back?

Would you like to trade me your HVX for my DVX?

I mean, you're getting ripped off, and that sucks, but it sounds like you really miss it.

I'm just trying to help you. While helping myself.

Unfortunately even if a HVX fell from the sky onto my lap, i dont think i'll be able to adapt my workflow enough to use it. Not to mention my balls would be pretty crippled for a bit and filming would be the last thing on my mind for awhile

Yeah MalcolmOng, the HD workflow is somewhat cost prohibitive (for me at least) right now.

I figure as long as there are people with DVD players out there, I still have an audience. Plus there's always the up-rezzing option.

Alot of our customers have been using the DVX100BP as a second camera for SD shoots when using the HVX. Since it's a bit smaller and lighter, when you have a run-and-gun shoot that doesn't require HD, then the DVX100BP is the way to go.

It's completely normal to feel the way you do. :)

I think its a shame this eventual HD switch(2009 I believe) will limit the market for the beloved DVX. I for one am already fearing the separation aniexty from my DVX100a as I take the plunge with the HD100U. Yes I know, it sounds like I'm selling out the handheld awesomeness of the DVX and probably am to a degree, but I have my reasons. I just hope I'll still be welcome at dvxuser.com :)

GET OUT YOU TRAITOR!!!

Anyway, unless you REALLY want the extra stop of sensitivity the DVX has, there is NO reason to get one when you have an HVX200. Even if you're just shooting strait to tape in SD the HVX200 is sharper and cleaner.

I shoot with the HVX and DVX for Multicam shots. The DVX100 is still a hero
for what it can do. But you must move on. The HVX200 will eventuall be the
next DVX100 when newer Cams roll out.

There in one main area where the DVX has a very noticeable edge over the HVX -- 480/60i mode. The DVX is about two stops (four times) brighter in 480/60i, and the HVX does some aliasing thing that can make the video look stairsteppy, whereas the DVX doesn't do that.

First off, 2009 is DIGITAL, not HD... so many people confuse this (thanks Best Buy employees). Barry is correct, if you are shooting 4:3 SD and particularly 60i, then the DVX would be better...
