HVX200 for Left-Eyed Shooters

I know I'm in the minority, but I am left-eye dominant. Has anyone figured out how to turn the eyecup on the camera so it's facing the opposite way?

Right now, the extended rubber pokes me.

I didn't see this addressed anywhere else through a site search or Google search.

I think the eye cup was made reversable... you just turn it around.... have you tried it? I'll go try it now.

Edit: Yep. I just did it. Works nicely. Just pop the eyepiece off and flip it. It's also not just for righties and lefties.... you can do upsies and downsies. :)

Excellent. Thanks. I saw the manual only mentioned you can remove it to clean it. Thanks for that. I'll flip mine now!!

the cam is still better when using your right eye - I'm left-eye dominant and I still shoot with the right.

Huh? that doesn't make sense. How hard is it to turn your head a little bit. I'm left eye dominant as well, and have all of my viewfinders turned around, and it has never been a problem, even shooting with the camera mounted on my shoulder I have no problems, just a little turn of the head. I don't see how the camera could be better if you can't see as well through the viewfinder.

I can't shoot with my right eye. It's very difficult.

In the old 16mm days with Mitchell cameras and viewfinders that hugged the metal camera body, I used to fight to be able to see in the damn thing.

Now I can see in using my left eye, and I have a technique where I keep my right eye open and use it to watch periferally for action I may want to include or avoid.

I like the feel of the controls with my left hand when using my right eye more than my left eye - personal pref I guess - I can also use the peripheral vision of my left eye much better that way as well. Somehow it also feels "off center" when using the left - probably because of using my right so much with other cams.

In addition the camera was designed for right-hand holding, presuming therefore that it would be stuck up to one's right eye. The center brace for the microphone is curved so that someone looking through the viewfinder with their right eye would be free to open their left eye and see a full field of view without that center brace blocking their view.

So yes, it does seem more convenient when using the right eye. Which is a little annoying for those of us who are left-eye-dominant! :)

Is it not more right eye convinient/suitable since you are then able to watch the LCD flip-out screen with your left eye ?

Kenneth, I don't see any remark in Barry's thread that he is left-eyed.

Sure. They design the cameras for rightys because there are more of them. But for left-eyed dominant people it's not a choice. It's necessary to use their left eye.

As a right-eyed dominant, try shooting with your left eye. Maybe some folks are ambidextrous. I know it's really difficult for me.
