Highly rated dealer, new USA DVX100B 2829.99 after rebate

Hey - after some research, I found this site which appears to be reputable (check the ratings to the right of the page). This is the best (most trustworthy & inexpensive) price I've found online for this camera. I searched the forums and didn't see anyone buying from them so I thought it might help someone.

If I can't get my filthy mitts on a 100A or B within this month, I'm going for it.

Take it easy.

Couple of warning signs:

1) It's a brand new site/company (June 2006?); they might be trying to establish a "good" presence before they start with the usual scam stuff. Not saying it so, but there's definite warning signs!

2) One of the give-aways is the look of the site; it's all too familiar, and resembles the "bad" ones.

3) A "Pro Fluid Head Tripod" for $149.00. Okay. Yes.

Your use of the words HIGHLY RATED is somewhat questionable: highly rated by whom? And since when?

Not the reviews I was expecting to read, but despite that, I'd still be a little apprehensive about ordering from them. Like vidled said, its layout is quite similar to several scam sites. The first thing I noticed was the accesory packages they are offering. "Continental, presidential" Heres a link to express cameras, a site that has been determined not authorized. http://www.expresscameras.com/prodetails.asp?prodid=450977&start=1 The page looks pretty familiar doesnt it?

Yeah, but at express all the "you're safe - click here to verify" style images they have on the right are all just clutter. Plus, look at the price difference. They do look very similar though.

I really meant "appears" to be highly rated, like I wrote in the body. I hear you though, and I thought the same thing when I saw that tripod. It does look exactly like a scam site, but with all the positive ratings on nextag, reseller, bbb....

I'm not trying to defend the site, I just thought I'd let everyone know. This one looks as close to legit as one can get - and I love how they give you the option of getting grey market vs. USA in plain english linkage. Of course, all of your skepticism is well founded.

I wouldn't do it because you probably won't get the rebate or your extras, since it is not authorized.

You'd save more money if you just bought it authorized.

Something to think about: If you shop for the best price, you could end up very disappointed. If you deal with a reputable company and pay just a little more, the only drawback is you may have paid just a "little" more. If you shop with best-price criteria, you could end up having paid way too much for a product that doesn't meet your expectations. I'd rather pay a little more for exactly what I want than a lot less for a big disappointment.

Rubix,

That is not true in all cases I just received my DVX on Friday, applied for the rebate online and just checked the status of my rebate and the check is in progress.

Best,

Rob

I started to buy from express cameras. What a freakin joke that was. I cancelled the order when the guy (heavy Brooklyn accent) told me I had to buy a charger for 300 bucks to recharge my batteries. He also told me the stock DVX100 battery could only hold a charge for 5 minutes of shooting and that a replacement battery was 200 bucks. Oh and then there's the 400 dollar professional tripod, which was a Vanguard. When he heard me gasping and choking on the other end he explained that to not buy these things would be like "buyin' a cah witout deh steerin' wheel." He also said the whole thing was "repackaged." I said screw that noise and busted on over to new egg. (B&H's site, who I'd heard was great, was down.)

If you look at any of the ratings they are listed on its possible to create a rating without actually making a purchase. Thus is scares me that they make them all up themselves.

Dont bother with it. It seems too risky. And like someone said before, you dont know if the rebate will be valid.

A few weeks ago I was searchingf or the best price i could get on a dvxb as well (that's when I foudn this site) and asked myself the same questions about bluestripe. By digging al lover the net, i found out that bluestrip is owned and registered to the same people who own express cameras. Despite saying they operated for ten years, they were set up as a business spring 2005, and after the required year in business to apply for the bbb online membership, they registered with bbb online in june. Despite actually being open since spring 2005, all reviews, anywhere that i could find have been posted since this company registered with bbb online. So bluestripephoto is owned and operated by express cameras (and everyone knows who they are), they are operating out of the same scam area as all other scam companies. Despite this, hoping they were trying to create a legit type business to catch the people who are too smart to get caught in their scams, I decided to order my dvx from them. They cancelled my order without notifying me. I called them and they said they do not ship to Canada (same thing I heard from all the scam places i had called the week before). You could order, but I would be apprehensive.

i often buy equipment for companies. the normal rules of being a good consumer do not apply here. you can comparison shop for prices, but only if you are very well informed. buy from an authorized dealer or buy used from someone you can check out if you want to save some cash. otherwise I can almost promise you that you will be taken advantage of. there are a lot of scams out there you would not believe. it is not a lesson that you want to learn by experience.

best of luck and try a search about this. bet it is one of the most common/recurring subjects on this board.

Hi, where did you buy your dvx from??did you ever get your rebate?

thanks

Interestingly enough, the price from bluestripe went down to $2400 for the DVX, a clear sign that this place is a scam.

Ive been reading this site for over six months now and while I cant quite afford everything I need, its good to read up on it and peoples opinions.

I would have to say though that there are too many people out there ready to take advantage of those looking for the best price.

So as far as reputable companies go, Id say Newegg has the lowest price, after rebate its 2700. Though their site has not reflected the increase of the rebate from 350 to 500. And they are out of stock.

Then again maybe you should wait a week or two, the current rebate will expire and I doubt they would go back to full price or even $350.

Newegg is a good company. But, they are not an authorized dealer. So, it can be hit or miss whether or not you get the rebate, and warranty, etc. Depends on where they get their camera stock from.

I bought a DVX from Newegg on 1/24/07 and sent for the $500 rebate. I'm still waiting for the rebate check but I did receive Barry's book/dvd as well as the other software yesterday.

Most people, from the sound of things, have gotten US product from Newegg. The thing is, there's no guarantee of that like there would be with an authorized dealer. The very next person that orders from Newegg could get a grey market camera--although I personally consider that unlikely (I do a lot of computer hardware business at Newegg and consider them to be a pretty reputable outfit), there's simply nothing stopping Newegg from going that route if they decide they can make a couple more bucks that way.
