Rought cut Rap Video *Nudity*

Here is the first rough cut for the video. The first :30 sec is one straight clip , that I have not even cut together with other footage. I'm going to do some type of animation for their name to spell out in the open as well. All straight out of the DVX no CC. This is about 5 hours into cutting it. Would really like to hear any suggestions and comments, to help out on the 2nd cut. Another note this will be the uncut version with a few more stripper scenes cut in. I have some good stripper tricks to put in *good times*

For a music video, it seemed very crowded, very wide. I would have expected a close up of each member at least once, but that may be a little cliche' in music videos. It was okay in my book.

Nice

Nice

Great overall. I liked the story going on with family and the poor neighborhood. That part was really well done, but the club sequences seem repetitive. Show more people dancing or partying or something because each time we went back to the clubs it was the same three shots each time. The beginning felt a little strange cause there were no cuts, but beyond that AWESOME job. Looks great. I like the song and I like the message. Good stuff keep it rolling.

Peace,
Michael

Thanks for the comments. The first :30 has no cuts. I have not messed with the intro of the video yet. Thats why it is just one solid clip in the open. I am going to add some more shots. I have some "live" footage of the group performing in different locations so that might help break it up a bit. Should there be more driving/neighborhood shots? This is only the first pass, so I know I have a bit of work ahead of me. I just got my jib in, damn I wish I would have had it for this shoot. Are the cuts quick enough?

i think the cuts should be alot quicker like the quality is really good i just think when u add the other locations and stuff it will help it all come together maybe have a second thought on the dark shots of them see if its really worth it to put them in there. good job let me know when the rest is done so are the same person shooting this Stash movie or is ther now connection?

The neighborhood

The neighborhood

I think you need those performance shots. I think the neighborhood is the way to go for most of the video for the sole reason that it is amplifying the message of the song. The club is nice, but this song isn't really about dancing in the club it's about problems back home. Maybe some more sharp contrasts between the club and the neighborhood. Try more rythmic editing. Use it sparsely, but at key moments it could be really effective.

Just my two cents....anyone else?

Thanks for the comments. Yes I am the writer/director/editor/DP for STASH.

ok. well, i would like to say that i really didn't like the song at all. as for the video, i would have love to see more close up on the people. (was there a story), if it was, i couldn't pick it out. i would also love to see more creative shooting. i'm not gonna lie, i've shot alot of video like that. and alot of times it was my fault being the director. i'm not trying to be a hard ass, it's just we're all here to help each other.

I agree with b boy... IMO the song is horrendous... not to go off on a tangent, but I wanna see something different instead of someone trying to be all hard and same rythym of their rapping ( dah, dah dah, dah - dah -dah - dah - dah x 100 ) with an off key hook. :(

But on the video, Yeah good start, get more cuts, more cuts, more cuts. different angels. Dont' be afraid to get in there for close ups...too many people stick to medium shots. Maybe some focus used in a creative way. Shoot as much footage as you can, because it always seems like you dont have enough when in the edit room. lol

I liked some of the motion shots where they were walking toward the cam and it was pulling back. Try some more things like that. I"m guessing that was a car shot... maybe try getting a tracking shot from the side very slow... anything to give the piece some energy, then I think you will be rockin

This is not their best song, and it's not the final mix. I guess i like medium and wide shots too much. Every video I see nowdays has too many closeups I think. I will add more shots and do the best with what I have. Thanks for watching.

Pretty good quality.. hey when you uploaded to sparkle what did you use to compress the file. I used windows media encoder for my video but the video is off sync after the upload.

I gotta say, too many wide shots. And I can't believe I'm saying this....... but the nudity made no sense. It was just like thrown in. LIke "hey we were at a strip club and mentioned this video to a chick there..."

Also, I did hate the song. The "Round and round' is so off key it hurts.

Less wide shots, more locations, and I think it'd be good.

Hmm, since when did nudity have to make since? It's a rap video, and i will be adding more scenes for the uncut version. I am going to look back at my footage and see if I can pull some more closeups, since most people have mentioned it. Thanks!

Was there that only one nude shot?

Like someone said, to many wide shots. I guess my problem has to do more with the song then anything....not my favorite so it was a turn off right away. Should have had some faster cuts every now and then, i started to lose focus near the middle.

Nice work though....I need to shoot another music video, just researching government grants right now.

I have another angle on most of the shots, so I will go back and look and see what my partner got. I will be adding a few more stripper shots as well, along with some cameo shots of some other "well known" local artists.

Hey I'm as much a fan of nudity as the next guy, but if you want to see an example of nudity not making sense and affecting the story, watch basic instinct 2.

I honestly didn't really understand most of the words to the song so I don't know what message they were trying to get across. But if it had to do with being poor and in a slum, as someone said, shooting in a strip club makes no sense.

If they were "blinging" or whatever the kids call it these days, it would seem more logical.

I don't think the idea is that these people live in the ghetto. Most of them do not. But most of them grew up in a rough part of town. They still have ties to these places.

i didnt think it was that bad.. the nudity is gonna lock you out of alot of airplay though.. you might wanna make 2 versions.

Song is not that bad if you ask me.. but the round and round thing was overdone.
