Hi all,

Ted Lederman and I competed in the 48 Hour Film project in Miami. Our "wildcard" category ended up being a period piece. Here are some pics and a link to the film. I know it's a huge file, but I didn't want to lose too much quality on the compression.

Just right-click and save the following link:

EDIT: I made the file much smaller, thanks to all your help on how to export the file correctly

It would be great to here some feedback.

Nice work! Hehe.. that damn circus performer thing really messes with anything dramatic... but you guys worked it in well.

BTW, I'd have killed for your wild card :) What was your initial pick?

This is seriously one of my favorites. I could only imagine what you can pull of in 6 weeks. Where did you get all those toys? Any more pics? What lighting did you use.. More pics would open panoras box. I am a HUGE fan of B/W, and think the HVX alone pulls it off perfectly. Freakin good job!

Nice dolly. I'd say it's at least 179 degrees better than our wheelchair dolly.

Period pieces are fun. I just finished one of sorts. I hope we draw that as a WC when we do our 48 in Portland in a week. Can't wait!

If you'd like a smaller version of your film with the H.264 QT codec, let me know and I'll be happy to convert it for you. Should be able to get you down to about 10 megs with little-no quality loss. Regardless, I'll definitely check your film out when I get off of work.

We used all tungsten lights. A few 5k's outside pumping in, and few 2k open face pars bouncing off the drop ceiling in the deli.

I picked "Silent Film" originally, but there's no way I was going to keep that, specially after I had been prepping a sound packge for a week before the shoot!

Thanks for the great comments. The screening is tonight...I hope the audience likes it!

Hehe.. we pulled Musical first... we had agreed that if we pulled either Musical or
Silent we'd take a wildcard instead. Martial arts was fun though :) Someday
I'd still love to shoot our original concept which took up most of friday's story
session. It was just too unwieldly in the end.

What block are you guys in?

DIAZ BROTHERS

Group D, tonight at 9:30pm

You?

We're at 7.. Digital Island. I'm not making the drive (gotta get ready for what'll be Hurricane Chris). We do have a carload of folks going up though.

That was great. Did you win any awards for it? What mode did you shoot in? 1080i or 720p?

I'm competing in the 48 hour project in Portland in a couple weeks. I've been searching the internet for other 48 hour films and so far your's has been one of the best.

For my project I don't have any P2 cards and I can't find anywhere to rent them so I'm going to try recording all of it to my 17" G4 powerbook. Hopefully it won't be a big hassle.

Owensville is a pretty impressive film. I see it borrowed pretty heavily from The Shawshank Redemption

I would say production quality taking sides is simply to hard to compete with.
Thanks for all the compliments...Actually we will be easy to compete with because our drive had an issue and it cost us 4 hours, so we were 45 minutes late. But we had fun that's all that counts

Edit: Regarding Owensville...

Haha I agree with Ike615 ..... "I think it would be fair to say I liked andy from the start."

That jumped out at me right away.

Edit: Not to mention the whole caged birds line. Other than that, I loved the concept.

What team are you on? I'm doing the PDX 48 again this year for team The Peter Sellers. Sounds like the name of an adult shop but I think he was going after the actor's name. Will probably be shooting on a GL-1 but it should look alright if lit and filtered right.

I'm on the The Liberteens. Don't ask me how they came up with that name. I'm doing it with a bunch of college friends from Chapman University, down in Southern California. This will be my first year doing the project but I'm pretty excited about it.

I'd be interested in seeing your film from last year.
