DVX Trade for Sony FX1 or Canon XL2!

Hey,

You might be wondering, why would you get rid of a 9 month old DVX100A? My answer: I'm ready for something new. I thought the DVX could fill my needs to make shorts but it has not. I'm looking for someone (in the Chicagoland area hopefully) that would be willing to do a fair trade of a Panasonic AG-DVX100A for either a Canon XL2 or Sony FX1/Z1U.

EDIT: I am adding one more camera to the list...Canon XL1s

PM me or E-mail/iChat me at Filmmaker14@mac.com for pictures of the camera.

Thanks,
Mike:)

What makes you think the other cameras are going to be better?

Sorry for hijacking the thread...

bballplaya23 makes a valid point.

Having been stuck with bad cameras, good cameras, and some in between, its all how you use it. I have shot with a DVX, had no story, done a poor job of lighting, and ended up with a peice of crap. Just today I finished editing a short that was shot on a Sony PD-100, but with a combination of a decent plot, some great talent, great lighting, I ended up with would I consider to be the best film I've done so far.

If making shorts is something you really want to be doing, what camera you're shooting on isn't whats important. I could maybe understand if you're stuck on a 1 chip 60i walmart camera, but you've got a an excellent peice of equipment capable of producing some fantastic images. Sit down for a day and learn how to use it. There really isn't much those other cameras can do that the DVX can't when it comes to telling story.

or he could be selling it because it's broken...

(not accusing its just possible)

But really... I find it hard to believe you think there's something an XL1s can do that a DVX100a can't...

I might purchase a used XL1s and trade it with you because I'd be getting one great deal.

Where'd he say he was willing to trade for an XL1s? From what I've seen its only been the FX-1, the XL2 or the Z1U. Though he's trading his camera, he's doing it for a camera that's on a similiar level, though I don't think the FX-1 is comparable in MY opinion. The others seem like a fair enough trade, the XL2 especially in terms of features.

I'm not sure why Mike hasn't responded yet ( isuggested he close the thread) so I figured I'd offer a little info. I had a trade all lined up with him, exchanged pics/info/emails and in his last emails he said he'd have to ask his father if he could trade (because his father purchased the camera).

The final response was: "my dad says and i quote 'There is too much invested in this and we are not trading with anyone'."

As for why he'd trade up, he explained he was a big fan of the XL1s because of it's use in 28 Days Later and Full Frontal.

Ah okay, tough luck. Sorry guys, I didn't notice his edit. Didn't mean to come off sounding like a jerk.

Dosent that prove Ballplaya and Floatings point even more? Since 28 days was done with a PK technilk and serious post production editing?
I couldnt even imagine what a mini35 and great lighting would do with the DVX.

Actually 28 days later was not shot with a mini35 adapter, it was shot with some nice lenses, but no 35 adapter. Again shows what can be done with talent behind the camera.

Four Eyed Monster please think a little more before you post things for sale.

Make sure it is what you want to do. Do your "deciding" before you post that you are selling it.
